Thread: Being a good husband. :)

Greetings Entertainers of SWG.

I am here beacuse I need your help. Well, not directly.

My in game wife/gilfriend just created a alt character with the intentions of being a Dancer/Musician. Our guild has neither, so she decided to help out. Well, after one day of grinding, it seems to me like she hates it. Her original character is more combat oriented, so she feels out of her element. She dosen't know the first thing about grinding that type of profession. For some reason, she can't access the message boards, so, as a good, concerned, husband, I am taking it upon myself to help her out. What I ask from you guys is...

Can you provide me with any links that would be of use to her? Perhaps some tips on how to make standard "Hey, come watch me!" text macros, flourish macros, or anything that would help make her life as a entertainer easier. Perhaps some encouraging words that I could pass along....maybe about how great of a guy I am??

I....well, both of us....look forward to any help you guys and gals could provide.

Thanks in advance!

The best advice I can give is....location. Where is she entertaining at? If she is by herself, or in Coronet cantina, then quite simply it will be no fun. Go to a cantina where she can group with other 'At the Keyboard' entertainers and join the band. Joining in the fun, chatting and laughing and joking with other entertainers is much more fun that standing in an empty cantina, or a grind cantina such as Coronet. Also, the other entertainers will help her, teach her new tricks and macro's, train her as she goes up in skill, and the big bonus is she will get more XP per flourish for being part of the band.

Join the Ent chat channel which is an Entertainer chat on most servers and ask where the live entertainers are. That should make it easy to find others to have fun with. It's also a good channel to ask questions on without feeling like a 'noob' as we are a very helpful bunch!

Another good place to look for tips, macro's, songs, dances is SWG Entertainer which is a website dedicated for Entertainers. You will find a lot of guides and information there also.

Hope this helps.

First, I'm sure she knows you're great if you treat her with respect and concern, and no one else needs to tell her .

Second, those "invite me tip me heal me" shouts areNOT necessary for her to grind, and are actually very annoying and inconsiderate. They're about as necessary as the person shouting "I'm new give me credits so I can buy an AV21". I tend to avoid players that act that way. I'm sure you're not annoying or inconsiderate, just not the type of guy you are, so you wouldn't want to suggest your girl to act that way?

Third, if you read these boards and want her to find the fun in this profession, the fun lies not in the grind but in the act of trying to socialize, be a performer or a healer. That can't be macro'd really, so while there are macros to automate the button pushing for this class, tell her to find some live entertainers on your server to help her get started with what makes it fun. I'm sure the macro writing isn't that hard to figure out. Its just stringing together some flourishes and a repeat cue. Nothing that complicated and that's why so many do it.

Finally, if she really doesn't carefor entertaining, and really only wants the buffing skill for your guild, then she's not the best person to do this for your guild. Consider trying to recruit someone who does like the profession to your guild so she can have skills she does enjoy using. That way she can spend more time with you out hunting or whatever she likes, rather than "grinding".If your guild can't do that, then if the only alternative is for her to force herself into it, thenrun a key word search for macros and I'm sure you'll findsome for her to use. I think there was one labelled a guide to grind or something.

Well, after spendinghalf a daywith her...before reading these replies....she seems to like it a lot more. Once she went shopping, and bought several outfits for herself (typical women. lol) she feels a lot better about where her character stands. She was able to get into a big group, and interact and mingle with the other entertainers. So,needless to say, she is a lot happier now.

She is doing it mainly for the buffing skill, but I told her that if she didn't enjoy what she was doing that she didn't have to. Luckily, like I mentioned, she's starting to enjoy it.

Thanks for your replies guys, and I will make sure to pass on your helpful tips so she can continue to have fun with this.

Thanks again!

Everyone looks at the learning stage as a typical grind, but it isn't, at least not when you want to enjoy your experience as an Entertainer. Its all about networking, making friends, learning the ropes, and finding your own fun. Hitting on a good group is a big part of that. I'm glad she did so. As long as she knows not every group is going to be great, and sometimes she will have to take it on herself to be the one to make it fun (especially when the student progesses and becomes a teacher).

In her defense, that should read "typical entertainer. lol" I know that I'm as big a clotheshoarder (ho') as any woman out there.

Who is she and where is she? Point us at her and we'll make her feel welcome. There's at least one of us warm and friendly types on every server, I think

Well, in my defense, she's always been a big decorator/clothes type person on her main before she created her entertainer character.....and that one is more of a combat type. Heck, she's even going to grind Fencer so she can learn how to PvP! It always seems like at the end of the day though, after she's done her hunting, she would slip back into some casual outfit, perfectly color coordinated and everything.

Anyway, her alt is named Si'enna, she's currently in the Coronet cantina, and she told me that she will probably be grinding her entertainer stuff early in the morning, so she can play her main later in the day and at night. Give her a shout if you can. I'm sure she will enjoy any hospitatilty and kindness that you guys and gals could provide.

Tell her she is invited to Bishops' Sanctuary any time. Ours is a live ent only player cantina in lovely Veritas, Naboo. I'll get you the join command for the ent chat (there is a "fake" ent chat so it's a bit confusing). She can contact either Roho or myself (Kirahfaye). I'm sure that Doasa, Leivi, Ub-ick, Shailas or Dranon wouldn't mind her adding them to her friends list. We have allsorts of entertainer gatherings (both scheduled and impromptu) where she can learn from some pros and make some friends!

Yes - Roho rivals me for clothing, but then I know some other male ents who put his wardrobe to shame (Dranon . . . giggle).

Oh, and darling - don't go getting too warm and friendly with her, 'k? /wink

Hon -

Are you implying that Dranon has a larger wardrobe than I do?? I'm just going to have to put Javier to work to fix that problem.

I got dibs! I emailed him my list last week.

Which reminds me--did you guys know that in-game emails have a character limit?

They didn't originally, but to "streamline" the email system they give us a character limit and mail purge... stupid thing to fix... they should up the number of characters I can email without crashing.
