Hello, Im thinking of making myself a crafting alt to generate some credits for my main, and i noticed on Ahazi, there arent too many DE's, does this mean its not worth getting into or have i stumbled across a not so secret niche market.
Do you guys make profits, and is this really worth doing ?

We do make some profit.
But if you wanna pick a crafting profession only to make money, DE is not the best way.
WS or AS are better money wise.
Ranger is also a good money maker.
and Doc of course, but that's not really a crafting profession.
Also depending how you play being just a merchant can also be very profitable.
Buy stuff in bulk from crafters and loots from fighters and sell them on your vendor.

Droid Engineer is a labor of love, not a real money making machine. You have to love crafting and enjoy educating people about how to best use your merchandise. Most people do not really know what it is they want, so you have to spend a significant amount of time working with the customer and explaining what each item does. Time investment is a significant portion of the job and can complicate making a steady paycheck if you do very many custom orders. Of all the profs I have tried my hand at, DE is my favorite.

It's hard to tell how the droid market is by just looknig at the number of DE's. Droids don't wear out, we have a few consumable items, but usually sales on Droids are one time only. So unlike Weapons, Armor, or Food, people are not always coming back. This means that while you may have far less DE's then the other big crafters, you actually may have more then the market needs.
DE is fun, we have far more options then other crafting professions, yet it IS more work as well. Droids wont ever make you rich, but you can pay the bills with it. If your expecting to make money like a good Armorsmith or Weaponsmith, you won't. Yet if you work hard, you will do ok.
Before you make up your mind, hit all the droid vendors on the global map. If most are empty or don't have much, you may be in luck. If they are pretty full and the stock seems good, you may want to check another profession out, if money not fun is your goal.

It's fun to be a DE, get the best ressources and dedicate all your time into droid engineering and only that simply because 90% of the other Master DE's on the server aren't helpful or their vendors aren't stocked. So do the opposite, keep you vendor nicely stocked, take special orders and become a millionaire.
Unlock Armorsmiths and Weapons, you can just craft millions of items of the same weapon with good stats and become a millionaire, DE is a challenge. And it's my most favorite profession because of that.

I think it's more iof a challenge than it needs to be. The needs for crafting are SO poorly documented in-game that someone who doesn't check the forums here won't know what they should and shouldn't do. There should be comprehensive profession guides in the Holocron that describe in detail what is needed to do what. Had I not checked here and did a LOT of readin I would never have known that certain critical components had to be made by master artisans. I would have assumed that I hadn't gotten high enough level to make those, until I hit master, then would have been really scratching my head.
In my not so humble opinion, anything technical information you need to know about the game should be in the game, not somewhere else less obvious. That isn't to say that these forums shouldn't be here. But come on, no information on how to set simple droid commands?? That's simply stupid.

Short answers:
Yes and Yes.
I'm more than satisfied with my bank account after being a MDE for around a month (been playing for jsut over a month) I have a full stock of good resources, all droids parts, a stocked vendor. Yet most of my sales occur out in the field, because i always have my MDE tag on
after checking out other droid vendors on the flurry server, it appears i charge more than anyone else, but i've only had 1 or 2 people turn me down on price... i guess most feel the higher prices are worth it for a DE that will custom make their droid, and takes the time to find out what kind of droid will work best for them
and then give them tips and hints on using it.
Ifyer a people person, and don't care about combat, i'd say go for it! if you wanna spend all your time hunting on dant, then... probably don't wanna go MDE
heh

i love DE. even though m not master, its still really fun combining different droid modules. even though u dont make as many credits, i often find that i will get tipped when some1 appreciates my work. DE is one of the few crafting professions that has player interaction because not every1 want the same droid so u hav to specially craft each 1. it may seem like a lot of work but i make crates of each part and just use those to asseble the each individual droid.

I started selling droids right before Patch 8 back in April (4 months ago). I had 425k then, and I now stand at a net total of 44 million so far, on droid business alone. This should tell you that if you do it right, Droid Engineer CAN make you rich, as well as being a lot of fun.

As my Sig says, i am aspiring to be a droid engeneer, but i am finding it hard enough to make money with architect. I love a chalange ( i mean Love) but making money on electronics and Harvesters isnt happening so im making a new challange for my self, by making droids
I just dong get it, with all the stuff i make i rarley get under 90% with my crafts 95% with all my electronics, its stupid how i make no money. Any way also looking for a master to take me under his/her wing a teach me the ways of the servers market demands

If I'm making a report for work, or something where grammer matters, I take the time to do it right. If I'm giving advice on the forums, I really don't care. You will find my posts plauged with nads, osmethings, and other typos. I catch many of them and others I don't. As long as I get my point across here, I couldn't really care less. The game and it's forums are for fun, work is for work. I would rather reply and give advice on 5 forums, then just 1 because I spent 30 minutes going over it with a fine tooth comb. Plus posting quite often really late at night probably doesn't help.
