As a Novice scout / Novice Marksman (Rifles), I looked forward to having a hunting companion stored in my datapad. After a few days of missions, I bought my first pet from Bazaar for 6k...a gnort. Well I found the gnort next to useless and after asking the advice of a CH he told me I had been ripped off as the pets HAM was excessively low. I've scrapped the pet and am here to ask

1) What would be the best droid to use for hunting at range (remember I use rifles)?

2) How do i heal my droid..I presume stimpacks wont work on them?

3) Do i need to have any skills in the Artisan / DE line to repair / maintain my droid?

4) Medic droids - how do they work and what exactly do they do?

5) I've heard that scouts can get a droid that harvests for them - what are they (and are they worthwhile)?

I would suggest going with a "tank droid". This is a droid that uses autorepair modules to continually heal itself during battle. As a rifleman, you need some distance (unless you have maxed ranged/melee defense), so the autoheals in an Advanced R3 will allow it to hold aggro as long as you get a combat module installed in the droid. If you dont, it will run away likeitsMamma is calling it The side benefit of the tank droid is that it does minimal damage thereby allowing you to maximize your xp gain from any creature/NPC that you tackle. OH FYI, make sure to stock up on droid batteries if you use the autorepair "tank" droid.

2) How do i heal my droid..I presume stimpacks wont work on them?

We now have repair kits available for just such an occassion now. Since you don't want to be healing the droid a lot, I would suggest going with Repair B's or C's if you can find them.

3) Do i need to have any skills in the Artisan / DE line to repair / maintain my droid?

Hmm, I don't remember that you needed Artisan skill to use the Repair kits, but I will check on that later.

4) Medic droids - how do they work and what exactly do they do?

It kind of depends on what"medic" droid you are talking about. We have the ability to make the "medical" droids used to heal wounds and apply buffs, like you would see in a medical center. I think though, that you may be referring to the "stimpack" droids. These droids allow you to apply stimpacks (A's only sorry :smileysad while you are in combat. They do ok, if you have no medic skills and they do provide some nice fill in heals for the docs/medics in the group. You can access the stimpacks by simply being in the group and having the droid near you. All you need to do is open the droid radial menu and/ or use the "/requeststimpack" command. I'll have to check on the exact syntax of that command for you also, or one of the DE gods would probably have it committed to memory

5) I've heard that scouts can get a droid that harvests for them - what are they (and are they worthwhile)?

Aye, creature harvest modules, my biggest seller! They can be stacked in a droid like some other modules, allowing you to use the droid to harvest creatures instead of you running all over creation doing it. It also provides a slight bonus to your harvesting skill, and does vary as your skill increases. A droid with this module will have a "set harvest option" in the radial menu. You can set the droid to harvest meat, hide or bones, depending on your need. This droid doesnt go through batteries quite as fast as the autorepair, but I would suggest you bring extras along for a long hunting trip. I would suggest getting them stacked and including a combat module unless you want the droid to haul butt if it gets aggroed. There is a range limit, which I have found to be less than 50 meters, but that is not always consistent. It takes a bit to get used to using them, since you have to leave your last target up for a few seconds while the droid recieves and processes the command, before switching to the new target, but it isn't more than 2-3 seconds. I think they are VERY worthwhile and combined with veghash from chefs, you can get a tremendous boost to your harvesting xp and amounts.

Hope this info helps you out!

Two accounts cancelled due to lack of Dev interest

The NGE, a sad end to a great game!
