Thread: Advanced Probots why so weak
Hi I understand that Adv PB's used to have decent HAM and damage. I am a DE and also a CH 2,2,0,0. Even as a non CH I could use a beetle or sim with 2k+ HAM and damage of 140-160 range (beetle even has light armour and is easy to tame). So if a non CH can have a decent fighting companion why cant DE's make and at least use droids of a similar level, this seems logical, sensible and not a lot of work. Otherwise I would recommend that non CH players have there pet level reduced to say 10.
In the spirit of fairness and meeting paying customer needs be great to understand from anyone who knows the logical reason for this?
It maybe 819 HAM but you have to factor in the medium armor and the 40% resists. A medium armor 40% resist probot does not easily go down in a PVE fight.
The probot will take more damage than the rock beetle. Quite a bit more.
The only downside is that the beetle can be healed with pet stims and stims and the probot cannot.
Doing lvl 15 missions against black market thugs that conned red to myself and the probot (marksman 2/2/2/2) my wonderful bubble-headed companion saved me through 2 inc at approx 80 seconds each from getting a DB and managed to avoid getting a DB himself with only 16 health left. Damage output may be for crap, but they can hold things within their level range at bay for a very long time.
I realize this is going to be an unpopular opinion, but in the movies "probots" never really presented much of a threat. The only time we really saw them was on Hoth, and they were all dispatched pretty easily (granted, they self-destructed, but hey).
In fact, in the era that SWG is set in (between episodes 4 and 5) there are precious few droids that are actually shown in combat.
I agree that we need some more useful droids, but I think combat droids are a bit anachronistic in this case. Any dissenters? (stupid question :smileyvery-happy![]()
Not to be a total jerk, but could someone please explain to me why whenever someone has a problem with the class they've chosen, their first response is to nerf another class? There's no reason to attack another class just because you're unhappy with the path that you've chosen. If you have a problem with something, ask them make changes to your class, not someone else's who has nothing to do with the problem. Perhaps a happy medium between the pre-nerf probots and the current models would suit you better than attacking the CH class.
I think that the CH profession's power has grown so completely out of control that there's no hope for us to have comparable attack droids unless CH is nerfed, which just ain't gonna happen. While it's feasible to introduce {the d-word droids} and other attack droids, I'd rather see droids with more diverse uses. Not every character in the game is combat-oriented. In fact, most of the uses for droids that you see in the movies are not combat-oriented (at least not in the original three movies).
Something else I could bring up from the movies is that you never saw *A* droid pop out to take out an enemy.. they were always in groups. In some cases, big groups. They were obviously designed to be built cheap and used in numbers to overwhelm thier opponents.
I'm just starting to abandon hope that there will be heavy combat droids. However, I'd be happy as a tusken raider on race day if I could have a droid that did more than store an object or a couple blueprints for me. That, to me, seems more in line with the SW universe.
Just my two cents. Or I guess, by now, it's probably around 4 1/2 cents...
I agree with an above post to a degree. There were more powerful combat droids (such as the two-wheeled missile launcher). But for the most part, droids were meant to be made and used in large quantities. Along this line, why then are we limited to one droid? I believe that non-DE should be limited to one droid (out at a time, that is), while DE would progress in numbers similar to the way a CH can. Our numbers would need to be greater, of course, to cover for the lack of combat droids available. If more powerful combat droids became available (and come on, we all know they existed), then the number may be decreased or limited accordingly. As of now, not even a DE is able to heal or power his own droids via another droid without a second person present with the appropriate droids. It only seems logical that a person that has spent a great deal of time building droids would also have the knowledge and ability to successfully supply commands to more than one droid at a time, much like a CH has the know-how to command more than one creature at the same time.
I would like to see more combat droids, just to keep us in line a little more with the CH'ers out there, but at least let us have a couple probots out to compensate a little.
CH isn't supposed to be a combat class, it's a scout class. Yet even a low level CH can enter combat fairly successfully using solely his pets, and combined with another combat class, is usually deadly. A DE is also not supposed to be a combat class, yet we can make combat capable pets. Our pets, though, can hardly take or dish out enough to be considered combat-worthy. Ex: Few out there would take a creature from a CH with only 840 HAM and 50 damage if they could readily get one with better resists and armor, as well as 2k-3k HAM and 150+ damage. Why should a DE be so limited when we all know that the technology did indeed exist (take IG-88 for an extreme example).
I think one of the reasons that they only allow one droid out at a time is the module ability built into the droid.
Has anyone else noticed that if 2 droids are in proximity and they have different types of modules installed one of the droids will not work properly. From the design, it seems that droids were only ever meant to be mobile crafting stations. Only when there are battle only droids, with no ability to craft or med or affect any other field affects will the multi-droid piece get fixed.
Thats the way I see it.
