Thread: R3s Hurting Droid Engineers?

I like the R3. I really do. But when it's the #1 requested non-combat Droid, and people want everything and the kitchen sink in it,I wonder if it isn't doing a disservice to the Droid Engineering profession. After all, in its place, I could be making and selling 2-3 non-R3 Droids. But with its massive module capacity, many people see little advantage to using any chassis but the R3. As a result, I charge more for it than any other Droid. And I never use one myself.

Would you say the R3 is hurting the profession?

It's more limiting creativity than it is hurting (I guess you could define "hurt" as that). I'm really hoping the proposed droid revamp will address this in some way.

I tend to go the other way so that if a customer asks for a droid chassis that holds more than what they are originally asking for module/function wise I let them know they can add x number of modules. After all I charge per chassis and module so I give them the option to add more modules to the droid. I guess I just hate to waste those slots.

simple, dont make one with everything in them. I refuse to. Im not going to limit my business and give someone a droid with scout traps, creature harvest, storage, and combat module sheesh

I simply tell them its more effective to have creature harvest modules in one droid. Then all scout traps in another. And finally a combat model with auto-repair.

A few get irked thinking R3's should be like old composite armor and cover everything but most arent. And I sell a lot more droids this way. Players can hold up to 4 droids, I say make em.

What I would like to see in the revamp is a different Droid for every purpose. A single Droid you can slap everything into hurts future business.

Personally, I put as few modules into a Droid as possible. It they want more funcitonality, they come back for more Droids. However, I never refuse to make a Droid to a customer's specifications, unless what they specify is impossible to make.
