Malitew,

That should not be happening, if the resource is on the planet it should show up on your device. Regardless if there is a concentration where you are standing. I have used low quality survey devices and high quality neither had any difference if I saw a particular resource or not.

well, that is puzzling. My old survey device does not have Ore in the list any longer. My new survey device does. I was standing exactly in the same place, and the two different devices gave me different lists of resources to survey for (the old devices list was shorter).

Are you sure that is not suppossed to happen?

Yes, positive. All survey devices of the same type should show the same list of resources, regardless of age or quality.

Actually... just thought of something. No idea whether or not this is even possible, let alone whether or not it might be your problem.

Do you die a lot? Could your old survey device have decayed due to repeated deaths? And if it has decayed, could it be affecting its performance?

Lots o' theoreticals there, but you never know...

Is the old one badly decayed? Maybe once surveying tools get past a certain point of decay, they don't work as well?

well, it is decayed, because it is the survey device I started the game with, but I don't know how decayed it is. When I examine it, it doesn't tell me the amount of decay.

I assumed that decay was the issue and wanted to know what the relationship between the amount of decay and the abilities of the device actually were.

But you guysare allassuring me that the amount of decay does not matter. Are you changing your position on that point?

Prior to the most recent patch they never decayed. Even now, they only decay if you die and we're not even sure about that (not all items decay upon death). At this point we really don't know what, if any, effect decay has on surveying tools.

Sorry for the confusion... I, at least, wasn't aware that you were asking about the difference between a decayed tool and a new one. Ithought you were just talking about relative age of the tools.

I guess I should have been more clear about that.

I can verify that when I last died, I was informed that the survey devices had decayed by some percentage. But I don't recall what that percentage was. I assumed I'd be able to examine the device later to see the amount of decay. Unfortunatley I cannot.

And assuming its not a bug, I can verify that a decayed mineral survey device has a shorter list of surveyable resources. But as I said, I don't know how badly decayed it is, and don't knowat what decay levelthe list started getting shorter.

It's not a big deal. I can craft new ones at very little cost (which is why I don't bother insuring them), I just wanted to know what the relationship was.

My guess - and it's only a guess - is that if you cannot see the tool's condition that the decay message is a bug. After all, we get all kinds of "your droid's customization has faded" messages on droids that have never been customized. My guess would be that items that do not display condition also do not decay - because there's no condition to decay.

If they do decay, however, they would probably work like most other decayable items. They work normally until they have decayed approximately 25%, at which point their functionality starts to degrade. Most of these items can be repaired, but repairing them lowers their maximum condition which, in effect, increases their rate of decay.

I am trying to reach Master Droid Engineer. I am at 0/0/0/1 at the moment. I have found that making apractice manipulator arm package works well and gives me 331 points each go. It uses 60 extrusive ore each time so i set up 3 extractors. I went back to them this morning and they had about 1400 extrusive ore but the ore in general had dissappeared from the ground. I went to survey for some more and found there wasn't even any on the planet. i'm on tatooine.

I guess it is not already hard enough for us eh!

No, this is just part of the regular cycle that all resources go through. Extrusive is one of the semi-rare resources we are required to use. Most servers have gone through patches that are up to a month without any extrusive, anywhere. If you want to keep track of when resources spawn and where, go to swgcraft.com. Also, if you could help contribute to keeping it up to date, that would be most welcome too.

Your use of the word "patches" suggests that it is the result of a patch to the game, but it isn't. Just want to be clear. Your post confused me at first because of that work.

You're just saying that resource concentrations migrate in time and that sometimes they are more difficult to find than others.

Something I've noticed on a related topic that I'd like to get info on: I've noticed that different mineral surveying devices provide access to different resources. Most specifically, I've noticed that my old survey device isn't able to scan for ore anymore. But I built a new one, and that one is able to scan for ore. Can anybody explain how that works?
