Thread: Idea for both DEs and Player Cities
On page 170 of the "Essential Guide to Droids," is the "501-Z Police Droid (Zed)." This is a somewhat tough looking humanoid droid designed specifically for urban police duties.
I propose giving DEs a schematic to make these droids. They will not be available as player pets. They will be available only to cities, to augment their player militias. At various levels of Politician Martial Policy and/or size of the city, additional numbers of police droids can be permitted. They can be assigned patrol routes by the Mayor or PC militia leaders, and rather than running on droid batteries, they draw directly on the city's maintenance pool. A damaged police droid may be repaired like any other droid, by using a droid with a repair module, or they will be automatically repaired over time at an incremental additional maintenance cost. They may not be directly ordered to attack things. They automatically attack those who are unwelcome in the city and assist each other and the PC city militia, but may not leave the borders of the city or attack anything outside city borders. To prevent griefing, they also may not be damaged by someone outside the borders of the city. Moreover, police droids always suffer permadeath. If your droids get fragged, you go to your favorite DE and get some more to deploy in the city.
As a result, I suggested permadeath because I see these as very nearly disposable. They should be relatively inexpensive to build (somewhere between a seeker or probe and a "normal" droid) and only moderately effective in combat, the real threat being the case where you make yourself unwelcome in a large city and have a handful of them converge on you from every direction. Permadeath is thus much easier to implement for these droids than any other sort of decay. It should be possible to replace them at a cost that isn't a burden on the city, but still gives some DEs a side business helping to provide for their town's security needs.
I like the perma-death idea. It provides a constant market for DE's other than batteries.
Faction bases have their roving defenders, why not cities? And why not involve DE's? It's a good idea.

The addition of a Protocol Droid chassis to the Shuttleport schematic is indeed a small victory. Here I propose a larger one, which I think will add a lot to both Player Cities and DE.
LOL!!
You mean droids are required for another item to be crafted?? Really?? Can't believe it!!
Now I wonder why devs didnt add surgical droid chassis for medical center... every city building should have at least onedroid component ![]()

Another idea (or maybe a combination of these two) is the droid control center with a DE able to control a little 3 droid squad to defend the city.

This is a fantastic idea - the best that I have seen on the boards since I started playing months ago!
I'm not a DE, but the Mayor of a big city (Darkfire, Tatooine, Naritus) and I would buy 5 of these right away for 200k - my militia is never around and my citizens are always getting attacked by Squills and Tuskens! ![]()
SOMEONE PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN - PLEASE!
I'm going to mention this over on the Politician board too ![]()
Yours,
Guys, I've started a thread to support this over on the Politicians board - hope that it helps.
Big love to you DEs! ![]()
They can't use my name I have it trademarked...
Other than that it is a really good idea
An excellent idea, Kitsunetsuki!
I hope we can get a surgical chassis added as a component of player hospitals, too. Like the Protocol chassis being required for a shuttleport, it just makes sense. Neither is or would be a particularly significant profit center for DEs, but both would simply add to the inter-dependency and flavor of the world.
im at TKA and SL and heres what i think
all of thease are good but you have a droid that ISNT permadeath and make it so only militia master squadleaders can use it ![]()
