Been putting this off for too long. Just started a TC character so that I can report on the droid upgrades when we get them in January. Now for the big grind. Anyone have any suggestions on how best to get up the ranks of engineer? Been so long I can't remember

You'll have to grind the Eng tree first...remember?

Then...300+ MSEs up to BP2 and finally the...

What am I typing this for?!?!?!

I did chemical surveyors. Seemed to work pretty well.

Thanks Doughboy.. I know the DE route, just wondering what objects are best for the engineering tree.

Be prepared to run missions. A lot of them. Do harvs as soon as you can just because you need them to get more stuff. I went up Architect at the same time as DE on Test. But this was way back before they nerfed Ore concentrations, and an 87% Carbonate was common then. I made all my own harvs and houses. But I ran a LOT of misions. It was *also* before they nerfed survey mission distances. Thats why I rarely play there anymore, I hate running missions. I want to support myself with my CRAFT, not terminals...I have 80k now, and it's the most I ever had on Test. I sold one of my factories for 25k and a medium Naboo for 35kto get it. Money really sucks there. I wish they woudl let us take credits with us when they put in Character copy. I know the regular TC people coudl really use it. Imagine...with 10% of the population, and yet the same overhead as Live (main costs, city costs), they manage to stay afloat. Having several 10's of billions of credits dumped into the server woudl allow them to get a decent 5 million credit bank to support them for another 6 months, AND allow them to play for fun more and not grind missions.

Jedi will never be a starting profession...Looted items and quest items will never be better then crafted items, this is not a loot based game...CH will return shortly...CH and BE will not be back in game...Rangers are getting their revamp next!...The stealth system will not be changing in the spy expertise...Need any more examples of things the devs said that did not hold true?

Wood,

I used Ranged Weapon PowerUps to start up Eng. Seemed to work out pretty well.

I used mainly wind power generators. There use quite reasonable resources compared with harvesters (less aluminum, if I recall right) and give the same XP. Also, now that both storage capacity and extraction rate can be upgraded du to experimentation, you can sell them pretty well so you can get money for your harvesters

I used survey tools. Not much bang for your buck (~50 XP I think), but all you need is any type of metal. (And lots of patience )

This is all welcome information mateys! Hopefully I'll survive the rough rigors of the TC enviroment (I have a thing for minimalism, so I should be able to adjust to the 'functionality rules, ok' strategy). If anything I have to say that this is the most interesting world I've ever been in. Streets are empty at night, there are few people out in the wilds, and a lot of it feels uncharted once again. The great thing though is that there is almost no network lag on the server (probably due to a lack of people). The only time I hit it was when I entered Anchorhead and discovered the entire place was a parking lot of vehicles (well over 100+)

Speaking of which, I just tried out the swoop bike and I'm in love. Went from Anchorhead to Mos Entha for fun (then again from Theed to Moenia). Never encounted such joy just dodging through all those little slit canyons on Tatooine till now. The thing should also make survey missions much easier to do.

But getting back to the server. I've made success out of nothing before, so hopefully I'll be able to get up there and join you by the end of the month mateys The only trick is finding time on that server to do it all.

Whatever you do, for the love of Chewbacca, don't beg for credits. Not that you would, but if you plan on staying around awhile, you'll want to make friends with the TC regulars, and they'll not be too forthcoming with nicities if you don't work for your money like everyone else. Like Calous said, run missions early and often to get your credits and do a ton of hand sampling.

Nothing says newbie TC tourist like hearing someone ask for credits to take a shuttle when they're standing right in front of a Mission Terminal.

I was one-starred? Swine, whoever it was. It wasn't you, DarthRoe, for those comments I made about efon on the IDEA post (I didn't mean what I said, I swear )

But Begging is no worry. I've already racked away 10k in surveying so that I could take a quick tour of the galaxy (gotta take that bike out to jump off the cliffs of Theed, or dodge through begger's canyon and its endless red mob spawns). Now that I've got that out of my system it's back to business as normal. But I was self sufficient all the way until almost master DE on the regular servers, this'll be no different.

Anyway, I've gathered up a lot of decent thoughts, so I guess this thread can die (as it is obvious that someone wants it to.... freakin' one-starring son of a rancor)

Welcome aboard TheWoody. I'm about 2 weeks ahead of you and am about to hit 3/3/4/4 tonight. I'll hit Master DE sometime tomorrow or the day after, so let me know if you need training or a hand getting yourself together. As Akkorimentioned, Test Center is a hard environment to survive in. Majority of your credits will come from missions. I'd suggest running missions around New Unity or way out in the out of Tusken's Bane, since you don't have a lot of city to run through. NU is a bit more populated right now, since there is a bug that wiped out all of the Tatooine style City Halls and TB has become one of the fabled 'Lost Cities in the Desert'. If you haven't already, join the chat channel /tcpa.

You might want to keep in mind the pricing structure of Test Center. Since the entire server is extremely dependent on the income of the few high level fighters, prices are a lot lower than you will be used to. This means that the normal 10 + cpu that many DE charge will be laughed at on TC and that higher end droids like R3s and Protocol units aren't going to sell for much more than 10k, if that. Function is the word of the day on TC.

I've already listed a few of the changes that are on TC right now, but another set of eyes is a welcome comfort. Just remember /bug it.
