Thread: New Droids Crafting Concern
Many DEs have stated that they feel comfortable that they won't lose profit on Combat Droids to the HoloDEs and those who grind DE quickly just to be able to sell the Combat Droids. They feel comfortable that this won't happen due to the fact that the current Masters are the ones who have stockpiled all the rare resources that a DE needs to be a DE.
I just had a thought that what if the Devs get lazy and do what they did with Vehicles? 15000 Copper and 20000 Metal and you have a combat droid. I really hope they don't do this.
For once I actually want subcomponents, maybe a few Master Artisan parts thrown into the mix. Never thought I'd see myself wanting that
What do you guys think?

Now you talk about this, I have some kind of deja-vu (or whatever is written
)
Do you remember current vehicles were suppossed to be the low-end ones? Devs said this was the reason why the schematic was so simple. Now, if we are suppossed to get the low-end combat droids first... how do you think the schematic will be? ![]()
The thing is not to try to make a quick killing. Those grinders aim toget in, sell cheap and, get out (like many people did with vehicles). If your in it for the long term - take a long term view. Example my prices for vehicles have always been much higher than most people asked when they were first introduced and ok I didn't exactly sell manythen. But I am selling them now, atmuch betterprices and I do not feel thatI am throwing resources away just to make a quick buck.
A few things that should be noted in any comparison between vehicles and the new combat droids:
First, there were no vehicles present when the vehicle schematics released, so they did not have to worry about screwing over older designs by making the schematics absurdly simple.
Second, vehicles are more critical to the enjoyment of the game for the average player (letting them move around faster) with less of an effect on combat (they give you a better ability to run away, but you can't really kite well with them). Also, vehicles were a delayed feature. These all combine to make the designers want to get vehicles in the hands of the players.
Third, it takes significantly longer and significantly more credits to grind up MDE than it takes to grind up MA. Does this mean there won't be people grinding up to have the class for a week? No, but there should be far less.

I think the difference between combat droids and vehicles though is that there's already sub-components around for droids. In order to make sub-components for vehicles they'd have to implement brand new ones.
There were available sub-components around for Vehicles, too, they just chose not to use them.
Light Power Core Units and/or Power Core Units (Arch), Power Conditioners (MA), Control Units (MA), Energy Distributors (MA), Micro Sensor Suites (MA)... and those are just off the top of my head. Every single one of those could have been used in the Vehicle schematics, but the Devs took the easy way out.
Remember that we had to ASK before the Protocol Chassis was added to the player city Shuttleport schematic. The Devs tend to do things the easy way if at all possible.
hmm could it possibly be that they did this to vehicles so everybody could have one easily and they might change it to a more complicated crafting set up when they have been around awhile?
it's true though Vehicles do take very little to build! and a vehicle is made up of lot's more components than this.
I would hate to think what they would do if they had us craft X-Wings and Tie-Fighters when the space expansion comes out! LOL

Good point, though I still think that the precedent for certain droids containing certain parts is already there, there was no precedent/expectation for vehicles.
