Lets try not to be negative, but be constructive.

Publish 7 and 8 for the most part will be good for the DE profession. Granted, its not all we wanted to see in the way of combat droids, and I think we all wanted to see some new chassis, but unfortunatly this isnt the way it is. Theres nothing we can really do to change this, as its already starting to be pushed to Live, but maybe there is something we can do in publish 8 that will make everyone happy.

Before we get to that, some thoughts I have on DH (Droid Handler) and the Hybrid posts. The Devs have already stated, a few times, that they dont really like the idea of a hybrid profession, and that if we cant come up with some extremely unique ideas, we wont see the implementation of droid handler profession for some time, Which is fine, they dont want to copy other classes, and they dont want to add new professions until the current ones are working better, and a cert system is a a no-go. So that leaves us stuck with CL combat droids for some time.

Now what can we do to improve upon that?

Well, look at it this way. Architects have a new painting schematic they can buy. Armorsmiths have a new armorschematic (RIS)they can find. Weaponsmiths haveabunch ofnew weapons schematics they can find. Artisans will soon have a new vehicle schematicthey can find. Tailors, have a bunch of new clothing schematicsthey can find. Chefs just got completely revamped.

What about the droid engineers? Well, were going to get some better combat stuff (and utility stuff next patch), butI think the whole DE community would agree that we need some neat stuff like the rest of the crafting clases. Now, Im not saying we should get all the schematics for all the droid types as loot. Some need to be saved for whatever plans down the road that they plan on adding to make a DH profession, but theres no reason we couldnt have a schematic to play with for the time being.

Say... a CL10 Mini Droideka, or aIG-88, or a 4-LOM droid, or even a RA-7(Militaryand securitydroid, theres one behind the Rebel coordinator in Tyrena) Theres even instantances of other types of droids in the game, EV-9d9 or the new Super combat droid in the new dungeon. These schematics could require special loot drops. and make them do one thing in particular (dont let us put in the modules) but no matter what, these would improve what we have, and would make being a DE fun again.

Ive been a MDE for roughly 5 months now. So Im not someone whos just coming along and throwing out ideas. I like the direction were going... but at the same time, I dont want to wait 2 months to get cool things. So, Thunderheart, if your reading this... could you please toss this around and see what you can do?

I dont think this is asking to much, and fits with the continuality that this game has established. Anyone with good ideas, please post here. Maybe we can get something cool out of this thread. Maybe even implemented for the dungeon in publish 8.

where has it ever been stated Dev's dont want a hybrid profession?

The only statement ive everseen is the Dev's saying the community didnt want a hybrid.

I would take it a step farther and say they would approve a hybrid because they are the ones who suggested the idea in the first place.

Well, I guess this depends on your idea of "better". If what Jenden and Javelin are reporting on TC is what is going live, I think we are hosed. No armor and 5 experimentation points getting a probot to 600 HAM ? I certainly hope that is not what we are getting.

Yep, remember when Sintrosi said CH + BE = DE?

Also, Deloo: Support our hybrid thread!!! Vote for it:

Don't vote based on what the devs will or won't do. We ahve already done the math on that as best as we can without telepathy.

Finally, its been more than 5 months, old man. lol! I remember buying parts from you a long time ago!

Babyblue_d,

I personally like the way you are thinking here. Droids are a great area to add good loot drops for players to have, new content to play with. The fact of the matter is though that even this is thinking inside the box as it were...I think perhaps we need to put some effort into coming up with some original ideas completely outside of what has already been seen. We have a good set of threads sitting around in the dark somewhere that have some ideas for new types of utility droids. Two things have specifically been slotted for this next publish:

1. A full combat revamp

2. Utility Droids

One thing that I think I've seen mentioned is that the combat revamp will make CL10 droids and pets very useful to have as a fighter class character. This revamp will in large part change what we will want to see in droids for the future, and I believe it is too early to start hammering out details on combat droids to try to shove into the patch, when all of combat is about to change. Getting more utility in our line, and especially some more variety, needs to be a key issue in my own opinion. Areas I'd love to see get real attention:

1. Droids should be used more widely (i.e. not just combat, and not just medics)

2. Droid coloration should be on-build customizable and show in the new 'deed' looks we have been promised. i.e. yes there should be the customization kits, but I should also be able to custom make it a nifty default color set.

3. Droids are more than just r2-d2 and c-3po...take a look at the droids in the jawa vehicle on tatooine when Luke buys R2-D2 and C-3PO. There were all kinds of droids for all kinds of purposes...a droid does not need to have a full vocabulary and a brain per se, it is just an intelligent computer. Why are they using clamps to hack a computer instead of an intelligent hacking program? etc...droids should have more variety.

Hearing constructive thoughts on some of these areas and what can be improved without killing our developers for lack of sleep would make my day.

David
