Sombody posted a rather extensive guide to a droid programming language the other day. i was wondering if this was real, or just a really big and detailed suggestion?

is there any way to program droids in such a fashion that you can have them interact with players?

i just purchased a droid and i have no idea how to change his name, make him follow me or anything. i did manage to fill him full of data and store some things in him. can anyone help me out? do you need something special to program them? any help would be appreciated.

Droids, in certain aspects, are like pets.

You want to program it ?

Click on the radial, Select program, then the cmd you want to program.

Then type in what you want it to respond to.

As an example - the Group CMD

Select Program, Group

Then type in Group

This will teach it the new cmd

To name it you must use the name in four (4) cmds

So to call it Bob you would use "Bob Group" (no quotes) to teach it Group

Then use "Bob Follow"

Once you have taught it four cmds with the name it will have that name.

Then you can re-teach it the same cmds with just "Group" or "G" or whatever so that you don't have to say "Bob Group" all the time.

As a follow-up to Gregmond's advice:

Teaching it commands:

From the droid's radial menu, choose Program->Command, such as Follow Me

A ? will appear over the droid.

Do /say <text> or /tellpet <text>

A ! will appear over the droid.

Now, whenever you /say or /tellpet <text>, the droid will follow you.

To name the droid, use the same string at the start of several commands. You can do Bob follow, Bob follow me, Bob stay, Bob group to name your pet Bob.

Names cannot have numbers or symbols, but dashes are alright. Also, some words are not allowed.

Once the droid is named, you can reset the commands - it won't lose it's name unless you give it a new one. This lets you name several pets, but have then all respond to the same command.

So with the new change today are unprogrammed droid chips still needed? If you have the qualifications necessary for a specific command can you program it directly to the droid without the unprogrammed chip? Does this mean that unprogrammed chips are only needed while trading commands to other factions? Haven't had a chance to test out the new system. Thanks.

Right now, yeah, they're only needed for trading programs.

As you can imaging, not something the DE's are too happy about...

So much for the only "renewable cash crop" we ever had in-game.

Should Sony and Lucas Arts be worried? (15000 users * 5 accts = ~$13MIL in potential lost gross annual revenue) If I were the CEO for either LA or SOE, I would certainly be worried.
