I'm not a droid engineer - yet. But I'm working on it. I love droids and are the main thing I love about star wars generally.
One of the things I'd like to see would be head variants for protocol droids (like 4-LOM, the death star droid, and the silver droid in the sandcrawler). It's a little thing I know, but I feel every little variant and customisation make the game a lot more fun.
By the way what do protocol droids actually do in game? Apart from annoy people outside starports? Although the fact that I get irritated by a 3PO droid is also very star wars.
Another point (probably been raised before) is that I feel that players language learning should be limited to a few, while others would require the presence of an interpreter droid. The language barrier should be a big thing.
Sorry if this has all been said before.

You know what that is about one of the neatest ideas iv heard of in a while. make it like a option in crafting like the gungan head statue, where you can chouse how it looks in the customisation screen.

Yeah, you would think there would be some way to program it where a droid owner could target another player, and if the player speaks in a different language, then the droid would automatically "speak" the same thing in basic. (only if the player targeted speaks in a different language...to avoid the whole "stop making that droid repeat everything I say!" "stop making that droid repeat everything I say!" grief)
The only thing would be what to do if you were standing around a group of players ALL speaking different languages... Anyways, if something like this could FINALLY be implemented, I think you would see a lot more folks taking advantage of their specieslanguage.
When implemented, all players would just have to revert back to their initial language state, and "re-learn" the couple of languages that each species would be allowed to learn. (maybe 2 additional ones to their native) For the rest, they'd need a protocol pal.

This is something I've been tossing around for a while. It's an excellent idea, and it gives protocol droids a purpose in life. Remove everyone's non-native languages and make them either spend 1 skill point per language they want to learn, or buy a protocol droid. And its not like it inhibits people much...they can still /tell someone w/o the language barrier.
