Talk to you local droid engineer about getting one.
Those expendable droids will survey the current resources of a target planet. It WON'T tell you the statistics of the resource, however. And it eats up a survey tool.

I don't make them anymore. Go to www.swgcraft.com and get stats on resources. To me the survey droids are useless.

The only thing I have found survey droids good for is to verify the existance of resources. Sometimes the helpful websites are a little behind. I usually don't use them until right towards the end of the week when I know the spawn will change.

I also heard they only return the names of ONE resource class on ONE planet. Ie you need one to do Ferrous Metals, one to do Non-ferrous metals, one to do Gemstones, one to do Ore, one to do Radioactives, one for Gas, one for Liq Petrochem, one for Inert Chem etc.. etc..etc..? that right? I think they should make a more expensive "advanced model" that did ie. ALL mineral names with stats on one planet. I mean if you are at a starport terminal it sounds like it really doesnt take much less time to jus pop over to the planet in question whip out surveyor and get way more info for no cost. Giving stats would be very nice, and I cant see any way that would hurt any profession (I dont know anyone that makes a living by surveying for other people).

No if you use a Mineral Survey tool it will send you every thing just like you opened your mineral tool on the planet. Same with chemical and everything else.

They're great for professional resource harvesters (having even that 2-3 hour head start on resources before they show up on swgcraft can be gold) or people looking for some particular random rare resource (swgcraft isn't always up to date on rares for DE for example).
