Mmkay, so our combat droids are supposed to fight from ranged, correct?

Then how come whenever I give my DZ70 the "attack" command, it goes into melee range? Sometimes it will stay back and use it's blaster, but more often than not, it goes into melee. Is there someway I can control this (I also have this problem with a CH pet that I have that has a ranged attack, but spends more time in melee combat than ranged)

Theres a toggle command that you program, using this command toggles the droid between ranged and melee mode

i dont recall what the command name is since i havent used a combat droid in ages

The "old" DZ70's were melee only. I would guess that they were never actually intended to use a blaster. In fact, I don't ever remember seeing a blaster mounted on the artwork.

The toggle command went MIA around the time of Publish 9, if I recall correctly.

It can actually do the ranged bit, but only if the droid could be given the toggle to do so. Like the R-series droids, the DZ70 also had the now missing toggle ranged command.

I knew it could (post patch 7, pre-patch 9), I always considered it an anomaly because back when they were 45 HAM they only closed to Melee range. That and I think "blaster bolt" comes out from the middle of the chassis when it does.

I may be remembering incorrectly, but I think that they did have a seperate animation for ranged attacks, shortly after the combat modules were introduced.

Well I do know for 100% fact that my DZ70 droid has shot blaster fire before.

The only problem is when it runs up to melee range and starts pounding on something much stronger than itself, and in return ends up incapacitated and back in my datapad.

Droids function the same was as ranged attack pets do. If they are not being targetted, they will (usually) stay at range, but if the enemy is targeting them and is melee, they will close to melee.

As far as the ranged command, yes. For some reason its gone, my DZ-70 still has it from when it actually worked, can't retrain it or anything though.

That's kinda jacked up... if my ranged pets are gonna get screwed like that, how come when I target a ranged NPC, it doesn't close into melee?! There is a reason why I want my pets to be attacking from range, and if the NPC simply targetting them negates that, it kinda defeats the purpose, aye?
