Thread: Loss of factories and the pointlessness of it all.

I'm a bit miffed at the moment as I have just logged in to find that all 4 of my factories have gone and of course taken all their contents with them.
I KNOW they had maintenance in them as I check it at least once a week (they were ALL right outside my shop), and when it gets low I put 20 - 30k in there.
I've sent a ticket to the CSRs to see if they can recover anything for me but to be honest I'm not really expecting anything in return because, God Forbid they should actually help the people of this game when somethings gone wrong.
To be frank I'd be happy if I just got my factories back in the same places they were, and not worried if i've lost the contents.
Has anybody had anything like this happened AND actually succeeded in getting recovery from the CSRs?
If I can't get any recovery i'm likely to cancel both my accounts and wait for WoW...

are you SURE that they are gone... sometimes it might take a while for them to spawn. I remember waiting 30 minutes for some harvs one time.

This has happened to me before as well. I logged in one day and couldn't see my harvesters or factories. After relogging and doing a full scan they were right where they were supposed to be.
The solution to all Star Wars Galaxies problems. Defrag and Full Scan.
(Well maybe not ALL problems)

Definately relog. This happened with my house that had all my vendors in it. I was pretty freaked.
Log out / Log in and it was there.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I'll bear it in mind in future. This time round though these puppies are definitely gone. I'll wait and see what the CSR says... in the meantime i've built myself 3 new factories so all is not lost 
I just have to figure out what was in them now and what i'm likely to run out of soon...

Well, i've just had the response back from the CSR who has checked all the logs and told me that all four of the factories decayed due to lack of maintenance. The CSR reckons that no maint. was placed into any of the factories from the 1st August to today. I *know* this isn't true, but hey, they have the logs to prove it.
Since I've now built new factories I'll carry on, business as usual but just thought i'd mention it incase anyone else has a similar problem of factories or anything else not registering maint.

It doesn't really surprise me that this is the answer you got. It's really a symptom of the whole issue you and others are having with maintenance on structures, but getting a fix for this one is going to be tough. My theory is that sometimes, for whatever reason, a payment doesn't get "logged".
The way structure maintenance works is that there isn't really a "pool" of money like the display shows. It simply keeps track of how much you pay and how long it's been. Since you made a payment that didn't get logged, the next time you approach your structure and it spawns, it does the math and "poof" you lose the factory, house, PA hall orwhatever. Since the whole problem is that the payment didn't get tracked, the CSRs and the devs see it as a valid destruction. This means that you don't get your stuff back and they don't have a bug, right?
Based upon my experience with maintenence and structures, I'd give you the following advice:
- Never pay maintenance for about an hour before the server goes down.
- Never pay maintenance for about an hour after the server comes up.
- Never place a structure near a server border.
- If you've made a payment to a structure during a play session, write down how much cash you have before you log.
- When you log back in, make sure you haven't been "refunded" your latest payment.
I've had item5 happen to me about 5-6 times and when I checked the structure I made the payment to, they were almost gone. Tracking a rarely occurring bug like this is almost impossible since the real problem is with the system the devs use to track if there is a problem or not. The only way to get attention on this issue is if everyone will /bug it when number5 happens to them and put down when and where it happened.
Sorry for your loss. Hope the above advice can help avoid it happening in the future.

I once got a notice that a few of my structures where down to 30% life. So i went put a lot of credits into them and they did show being at 100% condition for a few days. Definitetly something to keep an eye on.

Yeah this helped me as well. I was movning droid brains from one of my factories when I lost connection and my ISP went down for more then 4 hours. When things got back to normal I got back on and all my stuff was gone.... I just about ate my monitor. After wiping the tears from my eyes I desided to log for a little while longer and go doing something else.. When I logged in next everything was back but the items I was pulling from the factory, I then Logged again and ran a full scan.. (don't think this really did anything but it made me feel better) and when I logged back in again the factory was still empty, I didn't use that one for a week and still no creates.. so I desided to make a new run of them and when it was done I had both runs. So it worked for me.. (somewhat)

Of course, to keep this whole thing in the right forum, things would be a lot better if they fixed the damn maintenance droids!
