Thread: Jedi mind tricks on droids & other peculiar revelations this weekend

This may be old news to some of you DE's out there, but it is news to me. I remember reading in the original Harvest module thread that droids with these modules could harvest resources from a Bio-Eng's DNA sampling kill. I remember reading it a second time somewhere, and have since used it as a small selling point for my harvest droids. Yesterday I had a good friend tell me that his droid won't harvest his DNA kills. This was news to me. He told me he attempted it repetedly, but got the same "this corpse is not accessible" message. Did this change recently? Was it ever like this to begin with? Just wondering.

The other thing that happened to me was a little more disturbing. My merchant-bot, that I occasionaly drop next to the ticket collector in Coronet, was lured away by another player. I called the droid out, instructed it to stay, toggled the barker message on, then walked away. 5 seconds later I see this dude walk up to my droid. The action bubble pops up above his head, saying that he "summons to follow". The droid begins to follow this guy out of the Starport!. I was like "Wiskey Tango Foxtrot?!" So I store my droid, recall him, order him to stay, and reactivate the merchant bark. Well, low and behold this same dude comes back and repeats the same "summon" command. I then proceed to examine him. I saw no tale-tell signs of him being a Jedi. He had a vibroknuckler equipped, a TKM tag above his head, and he was wearing a black trenchcoat. His bio listed the umpteen professions he had mastered. My droid was a DZ70 droid if that makes any differance. Unless there is some Jedi power I'm not aware of, I don't know how he was able to do this. I double checked to make sure my droid recived the "stay" command. Has this "summon" command been present all along?

Any help on this, or just a plain ole' explanation will work for me. I don't know, maybe I'm still a n00b deep down inside

Thanks y'all!

this affects creatures as well. pretty much anyone can just walk up, /summon or /beckon them, and your pets/droids will drop what they're doing and follow them around. no jedi skills necessary.

I havent double-tested this, but try putting your droid on Follow Target of a stationary item... like the ticket collector.

I've seen docs being harassed by noobs pulling their droids away from them in buff lines, so when I hit doc with another of my characters, I decided to try this... so far so good... first time I caught someone summoning my droid I threatened to report him for harassment and he stopped The droid never budged however (I had it on follow target -> me).

Finally someone else being hit but the summon command. Next time it happens mate, report them. The more you complain the sooner the Devs will fix this bug. I've report several people for exploiting the summon command. One cheeky sod even had the cheek to say "cool" when I said I'd reported him. I've been told by customer service that its a bug. The summon command was only suppose to work on droids you own and the Devs are looking into fixing it.

You have to be community veteran to be able to edit posts. That's 6 months subscribed and about 100-150 posts I think.

Jedi mind trick to control creature do exist, or at least was talked about before publish 9.
And CH were very pissed about that.

However, here it isn't a Jedi thing, it's a bug that can be used by anyone.

If it's a barket droid, I suggest to change the message, not activate it and when someone try to steal it, turn it on.

Use your imagination for the message.

You can also try the patrol command. I dunno how exactly it react when only 1 wp it set, but it might work.

You can also be a Community Leader

But I do think that you should be able to edit as a member. But apparantly you need to be responsible and all that to be allowed.

I would guess more months... after a certain posts and high ratings you can get higher than leader.

Thanks Guys for the summoning info! It doesn't make me happy, but at least I know whats going on.

As for the DNA kills, has anyone heard or read an anouncement that "fixed" this? Was it even present to begin with?

Heya, all...

On the /summon & /beckon, pet-stealing issue...

It's my understanding that using "/tellpet <__>" commands will allow you to keep this from happening. I haven't been able to confirm this personally but you'll want to try:

/tellpet stay

Let me know if anyone finds something that does workaround this issue (and....yes, the Devs ARE aware of it).

If you tell it to patrol or stay, it can still be stolen. Unless you tell it to "stay" like constantly. This was really begining to annoy me, I spent a lot of skill points to get Ad 4, idiots were making it useless.

I was told by a CSR that is was actually considered griefing, and that players were warned then possibly banned, if they kept it up. I do know for sure that warning were given.

About a week ago, I actually ran a "sting" for this. I put my barker droid out Barking in Coronet Starport. On the other side of the wall, outside, I put my DE. I had her tell the droid to "stay" every 5 seconds. So basically, when the person summoned them, he wouldn't move.

However, since my toon was nearby, it was pretty simple for me to go afk, then come back every few hours and scroll back and look for the "so and so summons" blurb. Those people were then reported. I reported about 10 people.

I didn't want anybody banned, but what happened was exactly what I wanted to happen. Instead of those people tellnig their friends about the cool new trick, they instead told people that CSRs were cracking down on people for it.

Now my droid hardly has any problems.
