The best combo to use for crafting cloting is
Hat
Shirt
Jacket
Pants
Belt
Gloves
Boots
Never place tapes with the same mods into the same garment, which you learned the hard way. If you change into armor for combat, I would suggest that you try to stay away from putting the CA in belts and shirts, since they will not be removed when equiping armor. This will help to ensure that you remember to put the clothing item into a safe place before entering combat. If you can help it, try not to use the Tool Kit, since it takes up the same slot as your backpack and will help to minimize the juggling process of trying to equip it.

I have already wasted a few million credits on skill tapes by putting them into the wrong things. For example: I put a +2 droid experimetation tape into my droid tool set which had a +5. I thought they would stack but of course i learn to late that higher skill modare the one reconized so i lose money and my tape. I am now first gathering together my tapes before i put them into any thing and was just wondering what other DE's have put them into? To hit the extra 25 extra exp points I am going to have to be wearing enough clothes to get me thru a summer on Hoth! Any feed back would be appreciated.
Ran into same thing a while back. What i have done is gathered the clothing all at once. Made sure every piece has 4 sockets, and got every piece i can wear over one another. Ended up being pants, undertype shirt, jacket / vest / gloves, shoes, and a hat. The droid belt also fits over the jacket too, so that's 7 things with +'s. Good luck getting the tapes back...

Drashk nailed it.
If you do use the toolkit though, using your crafting stations input hopper makes it manageable.

Slightly off the point here - but if i fill my crafting stations input hopper up, does it count as items in house? and will stuff put there stay indefinately?

It stays there indefinitly, but yes it counts toward your house.

Thanks for the info - I was hoping for extra storage space there

Just choose yourself a cool outfit that your not going to mind wearing forever, then evenly distribute the tapes over it, taking care not to use the same type twice in any one piece of clothing
