Thread: Questions about Armor and Combat

My Alt had a customer who wanted to buy a droid (R3 Adv) with max combat rating and armor.

To make a long story short, they wanted an uber droid with max combat rating, with no auto-repair, and with armor.

I admivised them that with the very best materials the combat rating would 600 and the armor would have 40% resistances but since they didn't have auto-repair; they would need to carry droid repair kits around to repair the the damage. The person says "fine, build it"

So, I do. Final Combat rating was 570, so about 95% of the 600 I mentioned with 4463 HAM.

The customer picks up the droid complaining about the combat rating not being high enough and the armor not having enough.

Is there something I said that wa inaccurate or wrong. I thought 600 was the max. I wass't trying to steer him wrong, and now I think he is being unreasonable.

Armor is maxed at 20%.

But it only display correctly first time, when you ready the droid.
After that, it display 40% but it is 20%.

600 is the max for an R3.

Some people just want THE UBER BEST, not the best you can do.

Even if honestly, the difference between a 570 R3 and a 600 R3 can't be very big.

On a side note, for damage dealing, probot is better than R3.

I've had problems like this, and my R3's and probots are maxed out with 99% experimented combat modules. What we can build just doesnt live up to customer's expectations. They all want UBER or 733T combat droids and unfortunately we can't provide. I now make a point of explaining the ratings to potential buyers and carry maxed out R3 and probot with me so I can demonstrate the effectiveness on some unsuspecting womp rat.

Just make sure your honest with them.

The first thing is to know what you can or can't make. Know not only what combat rating you can make, but also what damage it can do. You can tell somebody that 600 is the max, yet if the best your server can do is 590, you need to tell him that.

If the best the server can make is 590, yet you can only make 570, tell him that. Then tell him the damage difference. Don't charge a top end price for what isn't a top end droid on your server.

Will you lose a customer? Maybe. Will you be honest. Yes. I think in the long run honesty is the best. That customer will know you can be trusted, he may not buy that Combat droid, but he (and his friends,) may buy other droids that quality doesn't matter on from you.

The last thing you want is that customer to leave your shop thinking he got the best droid possible, then 2 days later walk into another shop and see a better droid. I guarantee you wont sell more droids to him.

Very good advice. Customer service is paramount. We have a severe problem with repeat sales, and every customer counts

There was a post on here some where that explained Combat Rating. Basically, it only effects the damage range of the droid. I had written these down as the equations from that post, and I'm pretty sure they are still true (dont feel like finding the post so here are the equations):

DZ70/Probot

Min Damage = CR / 600 * 95 + 95

Max Damage = CR / 600 * 100 + 100

R2/R3/R4/R5

Min Damage = CR / 600 * 80 + 80

Max Damage = CR / 600 * 85 + 85

So in the end your R3 droid with 570 CR had a damage range of 156 - 166. With 600 CR rating it would have 160 -170 damage range. So there is very little difference, but as stated above some people just have to have the best (even if there is little to no difference).

As far as I know, the formulas are still good.

Thanks for the info and link Iygow. I thought they were good, based on a few I had tested about a month ago.

I always tell people who want a 'super' combat droid that the best we can do for damage dealing is about equal to a player with Marksman Pistol 3. I tell them that they should think of droid damage as an extra DOT they can put onto their target. It really lets them know where droid combat stands in the greater scheme of things. I also tell them that the value of a droid, or any pet for that matter is that you get to let your target go through your droid's HAM bars before it gets to yours.

Do this before they buy and they might be pleasantly suprised when the droid saves them from getting DBed by a mob if they get incapped with it out.
