LOL
Just Kidding.
Anyways, I have been a Droid Engineer for ... wow... 10 months now? Going on the 11th?
I have been through it all, I have whined, cried, moaned, given the finger and threatened to leave the profession.
I even went as far as dumping all of my Droid Skills and was going to go Doctor... but then I realized the err of my ways and did a quick grind back to Master Droid Engineer.
Why do I do it?
Obviously not for the credits.
Buzz1096 on another post said it perfectly "Most DEs aren't DEs because of the credits. We do it because droid making is complex, fun and with so many module combinations for people who know how to get the most out of a droid we get more customer contact than the average SWG crafter."
You nailed it good Buzz...you nailed it real good.
When I log in, I start building, surveying, laying down harvesters and just spending time talking to my friends, many of them started out as my customers.
I get to build something that adds that "Star Wars" flashiness to the game and blast it... I frikkin love it.
So, some of you long roaders... what keeps you going? What makes you love being a Droid Engineer?
LOL

Well, it takes a while to collect all the rares.
But seriously...I'm just a droid junky. There's no two ways about it.
What makes you love being a Droid Engineer?
I like that we are a rare breed...and I'm humbled to serve the best profession community that I've ever seen.
Oh yea....droids are the ROXXZORZ!!!00111!!!

I've been a DE since April, right before Patch 8, not a long roader I guess. But what keeps me going is the way people come to depend on you for the droids they want. It's almost a sort of fame, you might say, since your name and shop waypoint gets passed around. It's also the satisfaction of doing something well enough to get that fame, along with the credits, of course.
I also like giving people something they can run off and have fun with, making the game better for them. It's almost like providing game content.
This would probably apply to any profession, but to make it DE specific, I'd say that it's the creativity and variety that you can use with droids to tailor them for certain uses.

I have been a DE for about 8 months now, and I am still loving it. (ok, ok, so I posted the same thing on tailor board a while back, I love both!)
DE community are like those characters in the movie High Fidelity. We are the under-appreciated elitists and scholars. At least that's what I tell myself when my droids don't sell. (What do you mean it doesn't make COFFEE???)
And I second TK, droids are t3h r0xx0rzzzzzz!!11!onetwo!! (pronounce: teh-rock-sore-z)

My favorite thing about being a DE is trying to one-up my previous best on specific modules in which numbers matter
Combat Modules, Creature Harvest, things like that. Trying to find the best resources and combine them to make the best module and showing my customers I -am- the best, thats what I do. I go out of my way when I see someone with something better, I strive to be the best.
Sure sounds self centered, but not when I tack on the next part of my DE path; Apprenticeship. I just took an apprentice about a week ago. I plan on helping him finish Droid Engineer and then get him settled in the path of what he can do. I then plan on teaching him how to make the best as well. Sorta passing my knowledge of resource configuration and knowledge of what sells and why.
Fun stuff

You said it all man! I've thrown my fair share of tantrums over the profession, but in 8 days I'll celebrate my 13th month of being an MDE. It's only gonna get better, because lord knows we've seen the worst.

I have been a MAster DE for about four months now and have made a little money but have a lot of fun. Finding the resources, being able to answer peoples question about droids for me this all adds to the joy. Of course having to rarely restock your vendors is a plus but the day you have to put them back on the market, man thats a evening used up.

Can you imagine how cool it will be in another 12 months? By then we might have combat droids to make, and maybe even another couple big publishes with new chassis, and better modules.
