Thread: Master DE hangs up the Gone Fishin sign...
Folks,
First off this is not a /rant. Just to get that clear.
My love of the Star Wars Universe is what led me to this game...and to follow it all through its development. When the professions were first listed on the internet, I knew then that I wanted to be a Droid Engineer. I used to think, "Wow, there will be alot of people going for that"...(and I hate being something alot of people go after)...but I knew thats what I wanted to do.
I was lucky enough to have gotten into beta during the last month with a buddy account. I didn't fool with being a DE then, wanted it to be a surprise. So I explored, saw the sights, oooo'ed and aaawww'ed my way around Tattoine while I bugged anything I could find wrong. Then, we go live...
Anyone thats knows me personally from the other games I've played (EQ, DAOC..) know I am not a powerleveller. The grind disgusts me. But for some reason, I did it here...on Tarquinas...as a wannabe droid engineer. I had the visions of getting to make the R2 units, protocol droids, etc...and selling them to the public...making a good name for myself. Owning my own shop that folks would drop in, see my wares, maybe I could even repair a droid or two. No intentions of being rich...just a respected member of the community.
Well, alot of that I've kinda gotten to do...but, now that I've reached Master Droid Engineer...I see everything is not roses. Sure...I knew that droids weren't working right, or were getting nerfed, or had no purpose. But I kept the hope up that it would change, which I still think will happen... However I'm sick of having to explain my profession to players who come to me to buy and say, " Thats #$^%# gimped"..."My droid died...give me another"..."You want how much?!?!"
Last night I spent 6 hours...yes 6 hours...trying to make the items needed for a Binary Load Lifter. (Bugged factories did not help) I actually had a customer who wanted to buy one.On the final attempt to put it together, I fail. *ugh* I dont give up...I make another...but...I start wondering about my profession.
I know this is what I want to do still. But I decide its break time. So I head over to another server that I had a character on, and decide to see what faction is all about. So I go to Anchorhead, do me some rebel things, having a ball. I finally figure out that I can "hire" a faction pet, or trooper for 150 faction (I had already become a lance corporal). When I get this pet I freak out...this guys got over 2200 HAM, 2 sec attack speed and hits for 130-140. I've played only about 5 hours worth of game time on this character and I have access to this pet. I want to cry as the realization hits me how Ive been trying to sell adv probots with 2 lvl 6 armor mods on them to people. I want to cry cause I realize WHY would I want to buy one. Folks...an honest person can't sell what he don't believe in. Therefore....
...Ole Reeso is going on vacation. I still want to be a Droid Engineer. And Im not about to change him into something else. I've played plenty of games to know that one day....SOMEDAY....the droid engineer profession will come into its own. It just isn't right now. And I don't want that to ruin my dream, cause I know if I stick around, it will. Someday, the devs will fix the current droids, add new ones, and make that profession a lucrative job with a bunch of fun to be had. It just isn't right now in my opinion.
I'll drop in every now and thenand I will definitely be keeping up on the current status of droids as this game progresses. Til then, Reeso waves and says, "Good luck everyone! Travel well and see ya soon!" Reeso turns, hangs a Gone Fishin' sign on his door, and heads off to the river...
I am offering a 50,000 credit bounty on a Q-3PO or HOLO response to this message.
I am getting tired of the silence.
I find that since I have taken up the rifle and pistol and have started killing Wookies that I am again a useful member of the Empire.
My ambition is to take out all Creature Handlers and their pets in PvP. In the mean time I will produce mobile crafting stations, seekers and probe droids to fund my rifle collection.
Got some room in that boat for another fisherman?
