Thread: Dear TH: How to prevent Uber Profession Combos, regarding Certifications

It's hard to keep track of these threads, but I believe you expressed concern that if certifications were based on a player's professions...then "power"players would simply take the professions that gave the best combinationof certifications.

Example: If Pistoleer gave +4 to Combat Droid Level, and Carbineer gave +4 to Combat Droid Level, and Rifleman did the same......then yeah, some players would just become a Pistoleer/Carbineer/Rifleman in order to achieve +12 to Combat Droid Level.

I can see the logic against that. But it all comes down to the software code, doesn't it?

Rather than add all the numbers up....why not just scan through "Player Bob's" professions, find which *single* profession gives the highest Combat Droid Certification, and make that his final value?

Example: I'm an Artisan(+1 Combat Droid Level). Smuggler (+2 Combat Droid Level). And I'm also a Pistoleer (+3 Combat Droid Level). The highest of these numbers is +3, therefore the grand total Combat Droid Level for my character is +3.

Justassign eachcharacter the single highest value among the X professions they have. Rather than adding all the certifications up. This would prevent players from stacking professions to achieve the most *uber* droid possible. The certification would =the highest value found.

Or...take an average. A weighted average. Whatever. My point is that with some simple mathematics, balance shouldn't be an issue. If you manipulate the numbers properly, you won't overbalance 1 or 2 combinations of professions. If you'd like a more complete example of how to make this work, just let us know. I'm guessing within 1 day, you'll get about 40 incredibly clever suggestions from the users of this forum.

As the 945,037 posts before this might have mentioned...we really aren't too keen with the whole Droid Handler thing. And we're not too keen on certifications either, since it logically doesn't make any sense. Droids are machines, they do what they're told, and they really could care less if you're an Artisan, Medic, Bounty Hunter, or Dancer. Last time I checked, the cashier at Radio Shack didn't really care what my job career was, when I bought that remote-controlled car.He just took my money, and I took my mechical contraption home with me.

But....if the powers-that-be (themanagers and project leads) aredetermined to add certifications for combat droids, then let's at least be a little creative and show some forethought.

Personally, I think the DE Community would rather see the Developers put the whole "combat droid" thing on hold for another2 months, rather than watch them implement something we're all going to really be unhappy with.So that when it does happen...it happens with wisdom, intelligence, and clever ideas.

In the meantime, we've got *plenty* ofbugs that could be easily fixed this month. The Level 2 Item Storage Module comes to mind (Yes, I know it's supposed to be fixed in Publish 6). But honestly, how hard can this have really been to repair the past 6 months?Run a query on the code, find where "Level 2 Data Module" and "Level 2 Item Module" have been written, identify wherethis happened in the wrong place, and make the change.I'm sure we DEs would love to help the Devs out ourselves, and that many of us have the software know-how. But since they're not likely to share proprietary information like that anytime in the next century, we have no choice but to sit here. And wait. Maybe the sofware is written by some SOE employees in Morocco, for all we know. With corporations out-sourcing overseas these days, I honestly wouldn't be surprised.

Thanks for reading this (if it isn't bumped down 4 pages in the next hour)

Sincerely,
