Droid Engineer Archive
Thread: TH, A calm and honest explination for the DE reaction. We aren't weaponsmiths.
A lot of DEs have spent 6 months hanging onto thier proffesion because they thought it would be worth it.
All us DEs went through a heck of a crafting grind, just to be a joke to most of the SWG community.
Combat Characters laughed at our probots. Crafters boggled at our datamodules.
The LE Repair didn't repair, the BLL had ZERO function, the Surgical Droid was no different from a MSE for healing....
But still we hung in there waiting for the day when our droids would work. When we would have functional and VERISTILE droids.
We kepts going cause we thought the grind to MDE would give us a leg up when droids finaly meant something.
We are angry because our patients and commitment only meants we were gonna pop out a few uber droids for the power gamers. Our Protocol still stand around looking stupid translating nothing. The power droid still need to be recharged.
We got turned into weaponsmiths.

I mean rather than making versitile multifunction droids...we'll be churning out the only thing anyone wants, combat droids.
Why take a broken LE repair that doesn't repair? You don't. No one orders a LE unless it is purely for the look.
However now people will want droids as pet/weapons.
A MWS makes an uber T21, he can use it, but he makes it to sell to a Rifleman who uses it.
Combat droids would be the same thing. EXCEPT the WS makes weapons for ALL combat classes, we make weapons for ONE combat class, the DH. And if we are luck sell a few rolling crafting stations still.

Makes sense to me - if they go the route they are going, DE's will be making "guns" for a single class of player, while the rest of our droids remain broken.

Interesting.
I think this is a great plan. Lets go for it! I would like to go throught the trouble of making lots of GP and mem mods, begging for pricey but crap quality armor segments from millionaire armorsmiths, gather resources and doing factory runs, just to watch some noob use my droideka after I waited 6 months for it. yay!

Nicely put.
Unfortunately it's what we asked for. At some point the community shifted from "fix our bugs" to "fine, if you're not going to fix our bugs, give us combat droids!"
The DE profession has been broken for so long that we've all had way too much time to sit and stew about all the issues, and now we're so polarized and opinionated about everything that it's going to be literally impossible to get fixed.
Congrats, everyone. We turned ourselves in to Battlebot Engineers.
Whats wrong with that? Have you ever watched Battle Bots or Robot Wars? It frigging rocks, especially the house robot with the blowtorch.

Great analogy too. The people who build them, hide behind protective covering, CONTROL THE BOTS, and then send them into battle. You think some dood's gonna plop down US$ 10k jsut to watch some OTHER nerd control his bot, heck no.

As a weaponsmith i sell to
- Marksmen
- BH
- Smugglers
- Pistoleers
- Carbineers
- Riflemen
- Commandos
- Fencers
- TKA's
- Pikemen (both of em)
- Swordsmen
- Brawlers
- AND everyone else buys Republic Blasters.
IF the devs make DH or any other form of Profession specificcerts or skills, you will have One customer.

To be fair anyone could buy a probot. But based on how well they sell as combat droids, thats like saying a weaponsmith can sell anyone a CDEF.
heh
I don't know about the rest of you, but if they roll out combat droids without fixing the droids we have now, I won't make them. I'm sick and tired of the Dev team throwing bones at us and not fixing the fundemental problem with droids, which is there is no reason to have one...
Make the surgical droid give skill bonuses to doctors and medics
Make the repair droid able to repair items without chance of failure and by stocking them with repair kits
Make the R series of droids assist professions with modules for slicing, crafting, and repair. Let R2 units repair vehicles away from garages over time.....like healing in a camp without a medic
Let the Binary Load Lifter hold more storage than other droids due to its size and....its name?
If droids are designed to assist professions, then they will become as they should be...useful. Stop trying to play parlor tricks with us, Dev's, because it isn't going to work. I've stopped looking at the right hand waving the hankey and started to pay attention to see what you are doing with the left.
