Thread: Entertainment Droids
I guess what a lot of entertainers are hoping for is something to make them "like docs." You have to step back a moment and imagine a doctor with a personal medical droid and it makes sense, but when would you see a dancer going off to some dank cave somewhere with a droid to help her dance.??? It just doesn't make sense. I'd be dispaointed if we entertainers were given nothing buta walking camp kit. I'm already a scout.
I'm a master musician myself, own a droid that carries around my nalragon and ommnibox for me. My idea comes from my character's bio, put it in there without really thinking about it: My character dreams of one day being an intergalactic holo star. I tried thinking what that could be in the game, posted about it in the musician's forum, and somebody mentioned I should post it here.
Droid engineers could produce two new kinds of droids: an expensive holo-recording droid and a cheaper holo-playback model. The process would work like this, a dancer would purchase a droid to record holos. She would then record a ten minute performance, at which point a band could record ten minutes of music to go with it. The holo could then be taken by an image designer for editing, improving upon its quality. Then the droid engineer could take this holo, as well as others so players could change channels, and place it within the droid which would playback the recordings. These playback droids would be immobile, and could be placed within player-owned buildings. The droid would give a maximum %50 buff to mind stats for an hour. So if the recording droid was the best possible, themusicians and dancers performing were also masters, not to mention the image designer, factor in good luck, and then the playback device were a superior model, the buff would be a %50 boost to stats. A master musician or dancer will do %100 for two hours, so these droids would not replace the value of live performers. It would be much more common tosee a %30-%40 boost.
I'd see them as being placed in player-owned cantinas, or in people's homes. It would be very cool if they seemed like actual recordings, too. Perhaps The flourishes and pauses might have to be manually scripted at the holo-stage, but it would be very neat to be traveling, as a musician, and come across some cantina in some deserted town where someone is listening to "your" arrangement of a song, or for a dancer to see a holographic image of herself dancing with "her" flourishes.
Yes! That would be a neat use for droids!
Why can't we make one of those?
