This comes multiple perspectives, so read through them all before making a decision.. A solution to the "combat droid" issue could potentially fix another aspect of the game as well... Since Droids will require major re-engineering of the game, perhaps it's beter to leave it as it is and work on the other "future" issue, now.

1) Jedi skill-use is already a function in the game. As Jedi use their abilities, they gain "visibility" - and when this builds up, they become hunted.

2) Smugglers' "Spice" is described as being outlawed by the Imperial army, yet this continues to be wide-spread and has no implications despite the actual descriptions of spice stating it's illegality.

3) Current "level" of Probots (combat droid) is CL10. ALL droids can be used by EVERYONE.

If the mechanism that creates the "Jedi visibility" actually works, it should be enabled for spice-use, and - Droid Combat use of droids CL11+. This would be a deterrant for use of these powerful, and potentially illegal devices. No one MUST use Combat Droids, but the risks for using them would be a say, squad of Strom Troopers, thugs, or other "bad guys" randomly appearing to attack the owner.

** This falls under the SAME guidelines as to unlock a ForceSensative Character Slot - You MUST be involved in combat to at least aslight degree, and use of any Combat Droid would makea playera combatant anyway.

This does not break continuity, and it allows people to have an option.

A Droid Herder would not benefit the Droid Engineer community in the slightest. The number of people wanting to use droids would definitely outweigh the number of people wanting creature pets... It's not the same thing because droids do what they are told. Combat Droids should be no different - and not limited by CL to any player.

Wasn't the whole solution to the Creature Handler profession to redistribute the creature level? Why? Because creature level was based on TAMING and TRAINING ONLY. This means the character would need to have the skills to control such a beast.
Droids will lay down and power off if you tell them to. Try to tell that to a Rancor - or, a CL10 Wrix for that matter - something larger than their master WILL still attack if provoked (or hungry).

I agree the legal and illegal flag of items (and professions) in SWG should at least some effect on a players actions.

My suggestion would be this

currently the imperials govern law - to follow imperial rule you would have to abide by its rules.

neutrals should never be able to own anything illegal. the moment they do they should be flagged as covert rebel for as long as they carry such items, gaining no faction perks while doing so either.

Covert Rebels would be flagged as overt while carrying or usngillegal goods.

Smugglers could provide themselves with a sort of "stealth" mode while carrying illegal goods - as neutral - giving them the ability to pass by imperials undetected. giving themthe new role of smuggler!! (smuggling illegal items made by others to other planets.)

The problem arrises when you dealwith imperials using illegal goods. - i would suggest something like while an imperial uses illegal items all his faction perks are canceled - giving imperial smugglers the ability to remove this restriction would work too

Um. Change of subject here... just couldn't pass this one up.

FYI: I told my MSE droid to attack a kreetle the other day. It did NOT do what it was told. It squealed, turned, and rolled faster than I could burst run in the opposite direction. (shakes head sadly)

But that has nothing to do with what is being discussed here, really. Go on about your discussion. (makes shooing motions with hands)

How does this not equal PvP? You show up on a BH mission terminal, a BH finds you and kills you. This is PvP.

Alacrity - I didn't get that from what he had written - looks like he meant that the mechanism that gives Jedi "visibility" is used in the equasion to flag Droid visibility - and that NPC's are whom "hunt" or spawn to attack the players. That would work with city guards...
Remember Ultima On-Line? City guards ALWAYS knew where you were and insta-spawned to get you.

Sorry - I assumed "hunted" meant being hunted by a PC Bounty Hunter. If you mean random spawns of Stormtroopers (or other law enforcement types), maybe that'd be a different story.

Wow, a slight fix for the two least "complete" professions...

Forcing PVP on people who do not wish to engage in it (by declaring a faction or being a Jedi) is bad, mmmkay?

And Spice is perfectly legal in the Empire... so long as you get it from Imperial sources. The Kessel Spice Mines, for example, are owned and operated by the Empire.

Kessel Spice Mines? Those don't exist in SWG.. And re-read my post. I don't recall ever implying PVP.

AND, FYI - npc's already are forced to spawn on players - try this some time - set a waypoint 10km on Lok and travel straight to it. Count how many times you get NPC spawns oppose to traveling to a destination without a waypoint. You'll very likely not encounter a single npc ifno one else had beenalong that pathrecently. NPC spawns can easily be scripted to trigger.

mmmkay? kk thx bye! 1star4u
