Id say Most basic droids should be useable by all.
BUT i beleive to use profession specific droids, and advanced/highly advanced combat and advanced/highly advanced lifestyle droids there should be a skill point requirement for this extra power to keep game balance...

I beleive every SWG'er should have a droid. and The Ones who use the skill point useage should be able to use highly advanced droids...but to use a regular storage droid, any tom **edit** or harry!

also i would like to add that

it would keep the game balance by having a skill point associated with the most powerful droids....
