Droid Engineer Archive

Apologies if this has been beaten to death; I'm not a DE and only sporadically read this forum.

I was curious as to whether anyone had discussed the concept of having 'droid' be a player character race. It seems to me that there are possibilities there that would satisfy the DEs desire for utility without adding yet another pet class to the game. (I personally think DH's would be a bad thing.)

DE's could serve as doctors/medics to droid PCs and could sell conversion kits to droids that wanted to change their appearance. They could work in conjunction with armor and weaponsmiths to craft and install combat-related upgrades.

Droid PCs would be free to pursue normal professions. There could be IG-88 type bounty hunters, surgical droids that were Doctors, R2 artisans or even droid DEs (although some care would have to be taken that they weren't utterly self-sufficient).

I like this idea.

I would be a 4-LOM Droid!

Instead of going to a medic a Droid PC would have to find a DE to heal it, and you could get a Droid pet for yourself as a counterpart, such as C-3PO had R2-D2.

heh, finally give protocols a use, many droids can't speak basic, and players can't understand binary (except droid engineers of coarse.... binary is your friend)

There's 10 types of people in this world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Interesting idea, but it would be really tough being anastromech droid and not being able to communicate with words or be understood by most.

Doubt the Devs would go along with it either.

Honestly, it is the only way Droids will EVER have a presence here in SWG (what does that stand for?).

DE's might then become very popular. Upgrades galore for PC Droids. I don't think the DE should become the PC Droid Image Designer, but real, tangible upgrades would be cooooool.

I would be a Droid and a DE. C3-P0 would have a fit.

Can I be IG-88?

Yeah, but they could always put a few points in Artisan to make their own....
