Thread: Is the DE profession for me?

Hi,
I've just set up my alt and was looking to get him started in a crafting profession. One thing I considered was a DE, because in my mind droids play alarge part in the star wars feel of the game. Unfortunately I wonder if the DE profession is a very viable one. It seems that there isn't much repeat business for DE's, and some of the products aren't very useful (attack rating on droids isn't very helpful).
What do you guys suggest? Why did you become DE's and why do you stay in this prof? At the very least I'm going to try out the prof, just to see if I'll like it, but any suggestions you guys can offer will be appreciated.
At least DE's are needed for crafting jetpacks and some mando armor
Thanks in advance.

Actually, the Jetpack is crafted by a Master Artisan...but a DE holding the parts is required to get into the crafting chamber. However, due to many other reasons you will find that many DE's are also Master Artisans.
Most people I find doing Droid Engineer arn't in it for the credits. They do it because they enjoy the complexity and options available to them. If you're into the credit thing, I would suggest Armorsmith, Chef or any other crafting profession that makes highly consumable items. Don't get me wrong; DE is certainly a profitable profession but probably not as much as some of the others out there. When considering the viability of Droid Engineer, you should look past just seeing droids as a alternative combat pet. Think of them more as a customizable 3rd party utility to enhance your daily functions whatever that may be. I can honestly say that we can make a droid that is usefull for every profession out there.
1) Fills a niche in the market that is relatively untapped due to its low-profitability (ie, competition is low) and high complexity
2) I enjoy the complexity of it
3) I enjoy the interaction with my client-base (helping people understand droids, custom models, etc.)
