Hi guys,
I am a Master DE and also Master Artisan. I use Master Artisan mostly for building the GP, memory cards, and control units. Recently Ive been thinking about dropping master artisan and just have a masrt artisan make the schemtatics for those item for me. So I have 2 questions:
1) Is it indeed true I can buy any schematic and mass produce the item (even if I dont have the skill to make the scehmatic). Obviously the materials have to match.
2) Do we use (droid engineers) use artisan experimentation points for anything?
thanks!

1) Yes, you can make anything in a factory if you have the schematics for it. Beware though that you must use the exact resources used to make the schematic when you do your run.
2) No, Art exp. isn't used for anything in the DE tree.
There are quite a few DEs that don't have MA and do just fine. In fact I think our new Correspondent is one of them!

IMHO, Losing MA may not gain you many skill points to justify losingyour "independance"
In my situation, I have merchant skills, and I mine my own materials, so Business 4 is a requirement and Survey 4 is almost a necessity for tracking down spawns (especially with the new survey-while-mounted feature. The 1 point from master and 14 points from Domestic Arts dont go very far when applying them to another profession. Ok, maybe novice medic would make it worthwhile, but not another combat tree.
Another loss is the ability to make vehicles, which isnt a great loss...that isuntil your swoop is blown out from under you, half way to the village.
Unless you have significant support from your guildiein mining, can live with one (or no) vendor, and know a few reliable, dedicated artisans, I'd suggest holding onto MA.
I know this doesnt answer you question, I agree with the answers provided by GnomeAd. Just "advising" you to consider all your options before dropping MA.

It depends on how you run your business. I do all custom jobs (only use the single business 3 vendor) and don't do any of my own harvesting, so I save 39 skillpoints by not having master artisan. This isn enough to let me do DE/SW as well as master entertainer, so it works out just right. I don't have any problems finding the factory schematics I need, I've made enough friends of master artisans in my time that it usually doesn't take more than 5-10 minutes to find someone to make the schematics.

BTW, Jenden, since you seem to spend so much time in my neck of the woods (what is it you find sooooo fascinating about the Theed cantina?
) you can always drop by if you run out of MA parts. (Or anything else for that matter)

basicly is thehassle of finding some MA's that will sell you the schematic worth the loss ofconvenience (the ability to make them yourself and knowing you have the materials?)

I have a friend who is a MA so Im sure he will make schems with the materials I give him. Meaning, Ill still get the materials myself. I just wont make the schematics. I think Im convincing myself that it is worth the 20 SPs for sure =).

Thanks for all the advice. The route listed here, dropping MA and all Domestic Arts, is precisely what Ive been thinking about doing. But MA costs 6 points not 1 since it is a base profession. Thus you would be getting back 20 pnts total if I drop MA and Domestic Arts.
I would pick up Novice Medic and Pharm I to use stim Bs. Then I would be MDE, Master Merchant, 4044 Artisan, 0010 medic, with some TKA skills. Seems like a cool template to me. As it stands now at MDE,MA,Master Merchant, and some 4000 brawler Im helpless. Im hoping the TKA line should beef me up.
thanks!

Here is what you can do as well.
Make yourself an advanced MSE, put in a storage compartment and a data module. Fill up the storage compartment with resources. Use those resources, in filling up the data module with schematics. You can only really do this for like EMMs and EGps, but you can last a long time off of what you put in there. Then when they are gone find a MA to help you again.
I have mA myself, simply because I go through to many and it's just easier.
