Thread: What about a Survey Droid?
You know - right now, as a crafter, materials supplier, and product supplier, what I would really like is....
...
A survey droid.
More like the Seeker that the R* line or the Probots -is a 'fire-and-forget' tool.
Droid would be constructed with 5 possible modules - depending on type of resource being surveyed.
When using, the operator would 'select' resource in the same way the current survey tool does, then set a 'trigger' level and send the droid off.
As the droid finds resources with the appropriate trigger level, itsends a waypoint to its ownerand self-destructs.
(or, alternatively, store waypoints based on the size/type of data modules installed in the machine... finally a use of the Data modules!)
I would also be very much for completely disposing of the survey missions (these would interfere with them, but are *much* cooler/useful).

*That* would drive sales. I suspect I'd have a hard time keeping up with the demand.

I think we could keep this from being an unbalancing feature, and I'd like to see it implemented.
If survey droids were limited enough, they could be very helpful. Give them a limited radius, on the order of a kilometer, and make them sector-specific: That is, one 'charge' for example might only allow you to survey a 90 degree region, centered the direction you are facing, out to a distance of 1000 meters.
Make this take enough time, and make the charges low enough, and I think this could be worked into the game without ruining the profession of surveying. The key is much as it is with harvesters, that is it should be less efficient than doingthe jobwith your character, but efficient enough that it's worth the money and effort sink if you have other things in-game that you need or wish to accomplish.
Let me log out and come back later to obtain the results. A seeker should return with waypoint(s) in it's data storage module (how many? How good a module can you make?) which you could then load into your datapad in order to check the promising areas yourself.
I had brought this one up also...definitely could be the most useful droid to date.
It would definitely have to be charge based i.e. you make them and get 5 uses much like the BH droids They can go in one direction and based on the amount of experimentation can go farther or wider (both fields that can be experimented on and then you get a waypoint in your datapad of the best concentration it found (if it found multiples it returns the closest. Definitely would bea big sale item for you guys people would buy them by the crate...
Sounds good! I think that's awesome. I have half a mind to PM this to Holo... Too bad I'd get banned or something if I tried :botsad:
I believe seeker droids should be able to go X distance and survey for Y range. these values will be determined by DE experimentation. They have charges and are used up so people must buy more.
And the requirement for them is surveying 4.
.... as I think more about this...
It also has a potential immersion / coolness feature.
Assuming the database could actually handle having the droids 'visible' as they went about their business...
How could would it be to be nailing a batch of Crazed Durnis, when, all-of-a-sudden, you see a survey droid trolling through the area - occasionally sending out survey visuals?
Maybe with a meep-meep noise or two.
I'm guessing this is hard as I haven't seen Seeker Droids trolling through the Corellian Riverlands.
