Thread: Power Droid: *low power*

Hehe..just thought this was kinda funny. I have a power droid that can recharge other droids. When I told him to power a friends surgical droid last night, it gave me the *low power* message and I had to pout a battery in it. You would think with a power core in it, it would be able to run itself without batteries. Just kinda funny..thats all..

One of the DE little ironies isn't it? My friends are still laughing from when I told them about that. A walking power plant that needs batteries...

Someone made a post a while ago about a reference to the "Star Wars Guide to Droids" or some similarly-named book (actual book in print, apparently) that mentions how the EG-6 Power droids are powered by a fusion reactor that should be able to power a small starship for hundreds of years or some such.

So yeah, imagine my surprise when, after being kind and giving 6 people recharges to their probots, my fusion-reactor-powered Power droid needed to be recharged itself. And of course, like repair, droids cannot recharge themselves either. As an ancient Earth personna once said: "Doh!"

Edit really would be nice...

The book is called "The Essential Guide to Droids" and is still available from Amazon, B&N, Borders, etc.

Wouldn't that be a FUTURE Earth personna?

Maybe the system that powers the locomotors for the droid doesn't connect to the fusion power plant, the same way the gas tank of a tanker trailer doesn't connect to the tanker it's pulling.

Now I can't really see a good reason to do this, but then the engineers of the Star Wars universe do lots of strange things (Hey Bob, what do you think of the idea of equipping our jet fighters with the ability to fire a long cable with a spike on the end of it?)

It can be reasoned...but I find it hard to believe that they havn't figured out how to make a transformer in the Starwars Universe. Skimming off power from a generator is like the first thing you learn in college as an Electrical Engineer. Even todays cars do it, for crimmeny sake, with a simple alternator and belt, skimming power from the engine to recharge the battery so you can reverse the power back into the starter to energize the whole process again.

Again..its just funny...

had my power droid run low on power 1 time in the first month i had it,. since the patch i've run out of power 8 times. 8 times in a weekend that is just crazy. I personal feel bad that within five minutes of selling a person a droid they are going to tell me back that the droid says low power.

Yeah I can't keep battery crates in stock - I've sold at least a dozen already. I DO wish power droids really worked tho (as in not running out of power themselves).
