OK, I'm new in the whole DE world, read through the FAQ's and guides, browsed through messages, and am trying to be somewhat successful in my new endeavour. I read some of the suggestions about making tank droids and since I'm in a primarily combat guild, I figured a tank droid would be very helpful, especially to me working on building up my combat skills as well. So the problem is this - I made an advanced probot, loaded it up full of auto-repair modules (and armor, I know it doesn't work ATM, but hopefully soon...), and went to test out the droid and lo and behold - it refuses to attack. My dz70 that I loaded with harvest modules attacks fine, although not very good to keep me alive (or it either, lol).
So what gives? Probots have innate combat abilities, right? Why can't my little Bracciali take some hits for his mama? I can't program him to attack, only to... ummm.. self heal.

Was he on a vendor? There was a bug that droids on vendors didn't have the "Attack" and "Guard" program options in the radical menu.

The innate combat ability is history, went away when they introduced the new way of crafting combat droids

Yes, you need at least 1 combat module in them for it to attack now.

Ah, didn't see that. Yep, that's it. Need 1 combat module, and then you can have auto-repair modules. Remember, more combat modules, higher armor rating. Unless you count the 1217 bug.
You might want this:
ADV R3 with:
3 Combat modules (in Combat Cap. Cluster)
3 Auto-repair (in the other cluster)
Level 6 Armor and Level 4 Armor
That should be a combat droid for you. Supposed to have 9K armor rating. When the bug comes, it'll be the best*.
*This is only an opinion. Do not hold me on this remark

ARGH!!! someone needs to update the 101.
OK, so now make one with a combat module and I'm set. My DZ doesn't have a combat module, is attack still innate on them? I want it to attack for as little as possible, so I get max XP from my weapon skill. Which droid attacks for the *least* with combat modules?
And yes, it was in a vendor for a little while, but it was my vendor. I suppose that doesn't matter.

The Droid 101 is in the process of being revised. But on the "Critical Bugs" thread, a Dev showed up and said they might look more into DE bugs and ideas. So it might be awhile until a truely complete guide is finished.

Attack levels are based on the combat level of the droid (and if it has a combat module installed) not the skin and one small intermittent bug:
Droidswith cl 30 (one lvl 6 armour or two lvl 4 and one combat module (rest can be whatever you want) will give that) normally attack for around 250, however a Probot can get into a melee mode and only hit for 40, however it is not easy to reproduce this bug. Best try is to tell probot to follow target then once it is close tell it to attack.

No droid has innate combat ability anymore. Tank droids as we knew them aren't really possibly anymore. The droid's health, damage, and CL are dependent on the combination of combat and armor modules installed in it now.
As indicated by various other posters, combat droids have been totally revised by the devs to better fit into the CU scheme of things, so throw out what you know about them and start reviewing the threads on the subject until Drashk can get around to revisiting his DE 101 stickies.
