Thread: Thoughts on DE Problems

Ok first of all, I think everyone needs to stop bitching about the dev's not listening.
We'll bitch till we're blue in the face, we've earned that right by sticking it out this long if nothing else. We've reported the bugs, we've tested obsessively and we've shown more restraint than anyone should ever be asked to.
For the first few months there wasn't a squeaky wheel amongst us. We all defended the Devs and believed that they would see to our problems with speed and efficiency.
Maybe it was the fact that it took them all those months to fix even a handful of the most basic bugs, or the fact that every fix they gave us broke two other things. Perhaps it was the iron handed nerf without considering the consequences that they handed us on the Probots. Maybe it was the fact that at one point they broke us so badly we couldn't even craft a single droid for days and it took them days to even acknowledge that a problem might exist. Could it be that for our patch notes we don't look for a DE section but head strait to the CH section because we know every change that's going to affect us is going to be listed there?
Perhaps it waswhen they started talking about redesigning a profession that works like the CH, while other professions such as the Bio Engineer, Sqaud Leaderand ourselves were barely above being considered gated that angered so many.
I just don't know, with so many choices available, I can't seem to set myself on one particular reason to be angy. I was a DE in Beta, that doesn't set me above anyone else, but perhaps it offers me a slight insight into why we've gotten so bitter and cynical. I think the record during beta was 4 and a half weeks between a Dev saying the word Droid.
Your first point holds no weight for me, there are a number of DE's on TC, but considering there are rarely any fixes for them to test it's kind of pointless. The bugs we report are the same as theirs and have been filed thousands of times already. Your second point is made without thought to what has made us angry in the first place, if the Devs want to feel loved, let them do somthing to earn it. And while your third point would go a long way towards appeasing us, they have much farther to go before they make up for the crap we've had to endure to this point.
Luke did not run around with R2-D2 the Rock Beetle and C3PO the Cowardly Gurreck. He ran around with droids who were an integral part of the story. One of the absolute top complaints on the boards and in game is that this game does not feel like Star Wars. That their is too much reliance on CH's to do everything. The best way to resolve that complaint is to make droids more useful and therefore more prevalent. This is the tact I have taken and will continue to take until they produce actions to back up their words.
Tarne:
No offense, but if your Registered date (10-27-03) is any indication of how long you've been here, you don't know how things work. The squeaky wheel gets the grease around here. The more vocal we are about how borked our profession is, the more likely the devs are to listen to us. Granted, we could all be a little nicer, but considering nothing positive has been done to DE since launch (save the few show-stopping bug fixes, that patches created), we all have a right to be a little upset. Most of the DE's that have stuck it out are the most dedicated to our profession, and passionate as well. So please don't tell us we don't have the right to complain.
Not to mention, the farthest you've reached so far is 4 11 3 in artisan. It doesn't even seem that you've even looked into our problems. We definately earn the right to make an argument, we've had problems since before Day 1, what we really need is people to stop coming over to our boards telling us to stop whining.
I'm just waiting for the day when they start nerfing our ability to complain.Slip it into the agreement that we oh-so-hurredly agree to every time we play that anyone in the DE profession that offers the slightest bit of hostility towards the game will be instantly banned and 3 months fees credited from his/her account.
oooh, if only i was an SOE lawyer with an evil bent (but then again what lawyers aren't evil?)
if (curpost.has("DE","Droid"))
curpost.move("/dev/null");
And so some of what I think needs to happen is:
A) DE's need to go hang out on Test Center.
Because, that gives the devs more people to test things with, DE's are by nature at this point in the game probably some of the most stubborn, masochistic players in the game, and that is exactly what is needed for testing out bugs. And not to mention more DE's on test center allows them to put things on Test Center for DE's to be tested(Whoa! what a concept!)
B) DE's need to stop complaining.
Complaining isn't going to fix the problem, it's only going to make the dev's feel less loved. But if they feel more loved, they might be more willing to work on it.
And finally,
C) Dev's should do little things.
By little things, I mean if a dev either sent Thunderheart(or someone like that) to post or posted themself a brief blurp about a bug they encountered that day with DE(not neccesairly fixed bug either), that would be great. And it would go along way towards making the DE community feel more loved and like something was going on.
