Thread: Questions about the droids

I’ve been away for awhile. Looks like droids have changed a bit. I have an old Probot from the first month of play when they had 3750 HAM. He’s old but does a good job. I logged on recently and he now has a combat rating of: 18 or so. I see newer droids (after the droid refit) that have HAM as low as 2500 with combat rating of 40s or 50s. Is this combat rating a good judge? Is my old Probot outdated? Are these new droids better than animal pets? Now, how many droids can you own at once? What current model droid with what modules should I be looking for if I want a combat droid?
Thanks

I can honestly say that the old "pre-nerf" probots are officially outdated. The new combat droids are much more usefull. Especially when equiped with Auto-repair modules.

In your datapad you see a CL of 18, which is as high as combat capable droids get, but really isnt a good indication of their capabilities. What you look for now is damage range (indicative of the number/strength of combat modules installed) and the HAM/attackspeed/to-hit (quality of the final craft. Probots max out at 182-191 damage I believe at a CR of 550 (theoretical max at 110 per module), and can have 3200HAM, .75 (1 second cap) attack speed. R3s can have 4500HAM, and 160-170 damage 1.5as. LE repair can have 6000HAM and 69-85dmg 1.5s....
If you equip an R3 with 1 combat module and 5 auto-repair modules, it heals itself 100HAM every 10 seconds, so thats pretty useful.

im a 4/4/4/4 pilot and i use a lvl 4 astro droid and all my modules are like weapon overload 3 and engine overload 3. i was told by another pilot not to use overload 4 or higher. he says it can cause permanent damage to my componets and such. is it true? or should i upgrade to a lvl 5 droid and use overload 4s?

Doesn't matter what droid you're using, the L4 overloads cause more than 10 points of damage when they're run. Thismeans you'll suffer decay on that component when you repair at (station or repair kit). Deep Space will give you a decay-less repair, but you can't get there until you're master.

L4 overloads use massive amounts of power too.

Use what you want to use. Most people use L3 overloads.

But if you've got the energy to spare, and don't care about decaying your components, then use L4 overloads. Check out the droid routine section of the Pilot FAQ for some idea of the calculations you'll need to do to make sure you have enough energy to go around.
