Thread: Space the final frontier...

I posted this in my galactic forum but since I'm hoping that we DEs can make the spaceships, figured I'd post it here as well.

Does anybody know howin the world the devs are going to pull off the space expansion? SWG on the planet is easy cause while it's a 3D world, you can't really go up or down. All you really do on the ground is go forward or backward, right or left.

In space you can go forwards, backwards, upwards, downwards, etc. You can go anywhere you want, but are they going to allow that? I seriously doubt that the devs will allow us too much freedom with the movement. They might let us fly up/down to a certain degree so we can check outthe underside of astar destroyer, but what if all we wanted to do was leave Tatooine and just fly straight down leaving the galactic plane?

BTW when ships come around I'm going to need a copilot. Can I have that guy who rode in the back of the land speeder with Luke in Episode 5? If you super hardcore **edit** l33t whatever etc. etc. you could tell me his name so I can look for him.

I really hope we DONT make spaceships. We are DROID engineers. And by the space expansion maybe they will have a new profession for them all by then. But I'm going to charge 3278923792397823 credits for each astromech droid.

I would guess, and this is purely conjecture, that taking off will entail loading an entirely different game engine, one more suited to space travel and combat.

I recall reading that they plan to make the expansion joystick compatible, and I personally would love to see it approach Flight Simulator in terms of control possibilities. If I could use a HOTAS (Hands On Throttle And Stick) control setup, or a flight yoke and throttle, I'd be in hog heaven.

OK, I admit it, FS2003 is one of my other addictions, and I'd love to be able to combine it with SWG in one fell swoop.

As the DEVs quickly download the EVE Online client, remap the ship models to star destroyers and xwings, and claim victory.

LucasArts has made some of the best space combat sims ever created, and they're already Star Wars titles. They'd be fools if they didn't leverage some of that talent and experience for the Space Expansion.

This mistake has already been made in other games. Planetside's flight dynamics hardly merit being called that. Earth and Beyond essentially has everything on a 2D plane. Both play more like a FPS than a flight sim.

Those of us who have played LucasArts' space sims all the way back to the original X-Wing have expectations. BIG expectations. They've got to get this one right.

I heard that Startship Engineer will be elite-elite off of DE. Not bad in my book. I'm already trying to save up resources for the grind!

Off-topic: Some CH tried to charge me 5k just to train mount on my BE mount which was already trained otherwise. Got someone else to do it for free since there are somany of those buggers.

hey a new professions like that would be awesome (especially since we already have the base skills!)

I just want to keep DE to droids. offshoot professions are most welcomed.

what i heard, and i think it may just be hearsay but go with me on this one, is that Elite-Elite profession of DE will actually build the starships with the help of Elite-Elite profession of WS and Elite-Elite profession of AS.

With our luck, they'll find some type of creature to replace the duties of an Astromech droids once ships come out.

I can see it now.... The engines will be biiiigg cakes, and when they bake, the yeast will expand with explosive power propelling the spaceship off. In the back you'll see the rockR beetle2 unit in back, twitching and trying to breath. And of course, the co-poilet will be a super gun called the "RIS gun" that can only be made by armorsmiths, for God knows why.

That's one rumor, but nobody in any position of authority has said anything. That's something a player made up as an interesting idea, and other people for some reason took it as some kind of "inside tip." There's nothing to suggest that's what really will happen. Only plausibility makes it more likely than saying Chefs will bake our spaceships.

May be they'll fix the repair droid so it can repair the ship.
