Thread: Protocol Droids a Stronger role, and a few other random ideas.
Okay, so again I got to thinking about DE as a whole and what droids can do. I'm not going to go into things like, "Gee, I wish we had new droid chasis like Droideka or any other Trade Fed droid" (even though I do wish that). Instead, I just want to throw out a few ideas to make the ones we DO have a little better.
So, protocol droids are kind of useless. Since they're supposed to be experts at dealing with people, why not make it so Protocol droids can increase the amount of creds you earn on missions? Sure, I know slicers can already do this with mission terminals, but maybe don't let protocol droids increase cash flow from terminals (That should be left to R units). Instead, let protocol droids deal with NPC's giving out quests and help increase the amount of creds given.
R units SHOULD be able to hack systems, slice up terminals to gain more creds, unlock doors, and do any number of the cool things that R2D2 seems to be able to do!
Binary Load Lifters should be able to be ridden...(Just kidding)
I like the idea of MSE droids being used as hunter-seeker bombs, gives the little things a neat purpose AND could begin to institute an entirely new tactic into the game....Terrorism. (Nothing like hanging out in a cantina and having a cute little MSE droid scurry up to you....and then explode. HAVOC I SAY!)
This goes without saying..but..why can't repair droids repair? I mean, duh!
Med droids were medics in and of themselves in the movies. They should be able to heal without needing a medic around. I'm not saying they should be able to do it WELL, just enough to make them better. Maybe allow them only to stim but at a decreased rate of ability.
Well, I'm dry for now, these are just some ideas.
It's too bad that a data module in a protocol droid cannot be used to store a scripted "conversation". Many of the roleplayers have been asking for a way to create NPCs for quests and such... DEs have been asking for a use for the data module... and everyone (it seems) wants more uses for droids.
Heck, I would create a Droid "Q&A" script and drop the protocol droid off beside my vendor to answer common questions.
I have a character that I RP with and have not learned the languages on purpose. People just don't get me. I get yelled at a lot (mostly in wookie, so I don't care). NEWB! Learn the languages MORON!
But I refuse to learn them. My character has never even seen a wookie before coming to the city, why should she magically be able to speak the language.
The problem is I can't even tell they are talking to me if I don't understand them. So I never even get a chance to RP out not knowing the languages since they just assume I am AFK and walk out (or not... still not sure they are talking to me in the first place).
If a protocol droid could be used to interpret for me, I could keep him around and have him do his job. Maybe keep it as a targetted thing where I target somebody and the droid automatically whispers to me what they are really saying. Possibly even repeating what I say to them in their native language if they do not speak mine.
It would even be funny if the interpretation was affected by the quality of the droid brain. Imagine some of the words not making sense in a sentence.... "He says, 'I'll give you 400 credits for a durni's left hoof with a sock on it.'"
I tell you what else enrages me about the protocol droid: Ewoks do NOT worship them. This is a severe dissapointment to me. I think with a protocol you should go into thier village and pick a warrior champion as a pet if you have a protocol droid. The function of the protocol should be "Tame Ewok". You know have a cute and furry Ewok pet that you can send against the Empire. When vehicles come out, you should be able to let your Ewok pet mount a swoop or speeder bike and ride it willy-nilly.
You probably think I am joking. Rest assured, I am not. The next time I make a trip to Endor I want those furballs on thier knees when my Protocol Droid is following me around. I want a sacrificial feast! Granted, they will first think of me as being that buffet, but my trusty Protocol Droid will proclaim that I am the Maker! That I am not to be a feast for midget fuzzballs!
Oh, and that translation thing might be fun too.

Well, unless you can levitate the droid around they will respectfully worship your droid and eat you.
Maybe the droid will tell you how they are going to prepare you though....
