It seems to me that Droids should have a lot more functionality in this game, stuff besides waypoint shouting and storage. I love droids, and I use one everyday (mostly for RP reasons) but I have never found my life easier because of it.
On the same token, Multiplayer ships as they stand currently, are rather bad. They are great ships mind you, I love the interiors and the playstyle, unfortunately talking someon into anything other than pilot or gunner is extremely hard mostly because the other jobs are pretty lame.
This is where droids should come in. They should make a droid chip that enables your droid(s) to wander about the ship repairing plasma leaks and damage as needed.
Is there a reason known to anyone why this isnt implimented? Or has it been discussed already and shot down?

Yea we talked about it, but it never happened. I would love to see something like this myself.

It would certainly make my life easier trying to convince people to go up into space in my YT-1300 =)

I think we would make alot of money selling those. Not for the practical use of them, but that people would buy it just to follow it around on the ship.
But if they could be practical, those LE Repair droids coud help out. Imagine going to a Space Staion, denying repairs and land in Theed, walk over to where your ship has landed and fix it like Han Solo does WITH your droids (or Wookiee friend). Not that I see the whole walking to your ship happening, but is you could buy a droid to fix your ship, DE would be rich.

Actually another option for this is if the droid has to be loaded up with the various repair kits (not the generic ones). This would work like Stimpack Dispensers do, where you could command the droid to repair a system. This will create more business for SW too as they will sell more kits. Right now, I just head to the Spaceport and get repaired by them. But if I could have an R2 or LE Repair droid running around my YT-1300 I would be buying crates of repair kits.
Some other options to consider
- LE Repair Droids get a speed bonus to fixing parts (they are REPAIR droid anyway)
- ShipMaintence Module could be designed to take the place of a cluster and not a single module
- Droid could not repair Armor (Armor isn't really a system that could be repaired internally)
- Repair time would increase when damage is higher (no instant fix)

That's a good idea. It would really make the droids in Star Wars Galaxies more realistic. And as an added bonus to the fact that you'd use the droid instead of a space station or tool, decay rates would be lowered by, say, at least 25%. I know alot of pilots who would love to have a repair tool like that. And Shipwrights would use the droids to fix dented components that they RE before they work on them. People would love realistic (to the Star Wars universe) droids and buy all the crates of repair clusters and what-not.
