Newer, cooler droids!
Getting schematic all quest based, but...
Battle Droids! Super Battle Droids! Droidekas! Grevious' Guard Droids! Vulture(Space Droid Fighter) Droids for space companions!
Combat droids, flat out, just aren't all that cool. I mean, I want to see these guys breaking it down, not some dinky R3!
And face it, it would just be fun.(And get you more money)

I'm on my way to becoming a Droid Engineer (or possibly Achitecht) and I really feel that we need some droids who can tote blasters! Ones you can equip with whatever gun is applicable to their abilities! And perhaps be able to manage 3 or 4 several weaker battle droids at once, to have a mini party to adventure with. This would deffinately pull me 100% for droid engineer (even though im going that way anyways, if only for the hope that something like this will happen) My biggest thing for droids is a better ability to get creative. I hear only bounty hunters and smugglers can use bomb droids, but why? Why shouldn't an average joe be able to send his droid on a path of destruction?
Anyhow I just threw some other things in there butI TOTALLY agree with you here!

Actually, droid starfighter pets would be a really cool idea as a joint venture between DE and Shipwright.

It always comes back to the original problem... bigger better battle droids require someone who can use them. Right now, aside from putting those combat droids in game with current combat droid stats (and how stupid would it be for a battle droid to fight at the same level as an R2) there isn't anyone to control them. We've tried just about every certification approach out there, and none of them have flown. Only options left are adding them as factional pets/base defenses, or adding in a new profession. Both have been proposed, neither are likely to happen any time soon.

I don't understand why this is even an issue really anymore, since the droid will take any level that its player is, up to 80. I think most people would be happy just for some real combt droid chassis, even if they aren't actually any better in combat.
And we have more firepower for our argument now, since we saw R2-D2 kick the crap out of a couple SBD's in ROTS

that's why r2 goes from kick butt droid in ep 1-3 to average r2 in 4-6.... that and about 30 yrs too early in the fx movie biz.
