Ok, to follow up with a couple of recent posts here, specifically JaatoWaals' post about the lack of need for follow up purchases, I submit the following idea for consideration...
1. Give architects the ability to create a "droid storage shed".
2. Allow anyone to buy them and place them in the field, near their harvesters.
3. Droid storage sheds are a base of operations for power, repair, and load lifters.
4. Droids assigned to a shed can only travel a limited distance from them - 500 meters?
Ok, with all that, you then assign droids to your storage shed and the droids then perform their functions for all structures owned by their master within the range of the storage shed..
Power droids power structures within 500m.
Repair droids repair structures within 500m.
Load lifters carry supplies from the structures (harvesters) back to the shed for later pickup.
Maybe, we even assign protocol droids to the storage shed to monitor the other droids (human-cyborg relations) and report if one needs repair or replacement. Another option would be to give the protocol droid a list of resources needed and have them operate as task masters, re-deploying the harvesters, storage shed, and droids over a concentration of whatever resource is needed.
This gives the DE some customers that will have a need for multiple droids. Add to that the concept of a droid wearing out and "blowing a motivator" and we have the start of a viable droid market.
Imagine Load Lifters with a purpose.
Just an idea.
