Thread: My condolences to Droid Engineers

I took the time to talk to dozens of droid engineers, wasted a lot of money getting various droids to try them out...

Found out that data droids...dont hold data.

Found out that Storage Droids...dont store much.

Found out that Medical Droids...are nifty to have but not terribly useful. Sure they are nice to have around but ultimately the chances of you REALLY NEEDING one are.. infinitesimal.

Found out that Combat Droids...are worthless. 50 pnt blaster damage and armor will never outperform a 120-200 damage 5k HAM non-CH pet that can be healed in-combat.

Found out that Crafting Station Droids are perhaps the only thing droids are useful for.

Found out that the Droid Engineer proffession only has 2 permanent costumers: the Bounty Hunter which buys extremely cheap droids by the busload, and the medics who only buy one in their entire lifetimes.

After all that, I can only say I admire you folks for skilling up in such a proffession.

You have my deepest condolences as well.

Yea...that's the really, really sad part.

He pretty much gave the 'short version' of what's going on with our profession and products.

Thx for the post, man!

Funny thing about the storage modules. I guess that since a mouse droid is small, it can only hold 10 items max (or something like that, right?). It's funny, however, that I can put 50 crafting stations into a travel pack and carry them around tho...

True True.. But even the Bounty Hunter well will run dry when the majority of Bounty Hunters get Master. Then there's no need for the Bounty Hunter droids either.

Thanks for the post.

I did all that talking to DE's and buying droids because I was thinking of making my weaponsmith be also a droid engineer.. so as to have a 'complete' weapon dealership kinda bussiness.

You guys really need to receive some major love. You have no market, your products are for the most part, useless, and those few things that you make that have some practical use, you will only sell once per costumer's lifetime.

My wishlist to become a DE would be:

-Add more module slots to droids, add more type of modules. Primarily weapon modules (melee and ranged), survey modules (tell droid to find an X % of X material, droid goes out and tries to find it inside a range of 10k from where it was deployed, creates waypoint in your datapad when it finds it..droid is very slow though, flying at 'walking speed'), sensor modules (increases your detect range in radar screen, we all hate that 'i have radar at 256m and red dots pop into radar view when they inside visual range issue), maintainance personality chip (this droid can be ordered to retreive resources from distant harvesters, takes them 30 minutes but they 'teleport' to your designated harvester, pick the resources and bring them back to you..can also do the same to deliver power and money to the harvester).

-Add more droid type schematics. Since the previous wish adds weapon slots to any droid, making it combat capable, just add more 'body type' droids, the body type determining their HAM (and therefore 'level' of droid) as well as 'specials' such as movement speed, refire rate, flying/walking/rolling , etc.

-To give DE's a market, make droids require the famed 'memory wipe' thats mentioned in so many of the SW books. Make a droid's MIND be not fixable by repairing a droid. Droid should get 10% mind wound every time its incapacitated or runs out of power (so non-combat droids also get a chance to need a mind wipe). For this end, give DE's the ability to make a VENDOR droid only a DE can control and use that fix mind wounds. Let this droid be like an NPCtrainer of sorts, player requiring the memory wipe (mind wound healing of droids) have to go to the droid engineer's home, talk to this droid, pay a certain amount of money to get their droid mind-wiped.

- Allow players to have up to 3 droids out and 6 in inventory. Just like they did with CH's, make players only take out a max of X total level of droid worth. Lets say lev 30 is the max droid level for non-DE's (DE's get level 80 droids max total). So any non-DE can have 3 lev 10 droids out at any one time. And since a droid's weapon module, armor module and body type would determine the droid's level, a player could haveeither 1 droid thats as powerful as a greater sludge panther (but fires from range or melee depending on melee weapon module) or 3 level 10 droids.

And to prevent level1 players from having 3 level 10 droids and soloing stuff red to them, just make their ability to 'use' a droid be tied to their weapon skills, just like missions are. Someone with just pistol1 as his total weapon skills should only be able to control a 100 ham droid firing a 20 pnt laser and no armor or somethign like that.

This last one was what i was hoping i could do with my wepsmith/DE . If I could make cheap, disposable combat droids (say, a valk type droid with 400 HAM, lev 1 armor, firing 100pnt blasters every 2 seconds), I could make myself good clientele selling them more and more droids because they wont care if they lose one of their disposable droids..especially if I charge only 500 credits for each.

but until that happens, not a chance ill waste my time and resources skilling the DE proffession.

Aye, that's the painful irony of the DE profession...

Data Droids can't hold useful data...

Storage Droids can't hold much of anything...

Surgical Droids can't heal...

Repair Droids can't repair...

Binary Load Lifters can't lift...

Protocol Droids can't translate...

Basically we have different shaped containers for mobile crafting stations and the occasional medical module...

The only repeat business is BH's who think you're charging too much when you sell BH droids for half of what they used to have to pay from them from a vendor...

It's still fun though, I just wish it were more useful. I took up DE on an second account because it looked fascinating, figuring out how all the droids are put together, and as I've progressed up the tree each time I make a new droid for the first timeit's exciting and fun to see it come to life.

From reading these boards though I guess that'll wear off. =)

I just program my BLL to patrol around the cantina while I perform (Musician as well) and tell everyone he's the bouncer. Everyone thinks he's cool and asks what he does and I have to say "not a **edit** thing." No one's asked me to make them one yet, hehe...

It s worth a loudy BUMP!!!

i cant understand why dev team is working on details, while a whole profession - the one requiring the most xpwinthin artisans professions, so the most difficult - is completely useless.

Dev team, i know you re having a lot of work. i know there are many issues to take care. I know droids engineers may not be the first priority.

All this, i do understand... But here you have a whole communauty, the DE communauty, completly shocked...

we are 90% useless. how will we ever be able to pay back all the stuff and grinding needed to get master DE if our droids are completely useless (with the exception of a few items of VERY little help).

Anymore, the balance issue on combat droids is terrible...

I m a good guy. i can wait. i think we re all good guys, but...

I WANT A DESCRIPTION OF WHAT S PLANNED AND AND ETA. I WANT IT NOW.

oh and let me add... after letting us in such a poor state for months, we do expect something far better for thefuture elite elite combat droid profession.

This said, best regards to the dev team cause the game is great. just very bugged, and huge balance issues.

First thank you for your condolences, most of these are very true and I would also like to add my comments to each of these.

Found out that data droids...dont hold data. Yes this is very true

Found out that Storage Droids...dont store much. They sure don't, 10 items max as far as I know(its still nice to put my crates in these)

Found out that Medical Droids...are nifty to have but not terribly useful. Sure they are nice to have around but ultimately the chances of you REALLY NEEDING one are.. infinitesimal. I think these are pretty useful as far as healing outside campsites and away from town, but its such a bitch to get them to follow you, you need to make a camp to call them, lol.Yes not as good as they could be, however the food/chem crafting stations are very much worth it.

Found out that Combat Droids...are worthless. 50 pnt blaster damage and armor will never outperform a 120-200 damage 5k HAM non-CH pet that can be healed in-combat. For damage they are worthless, but mine is a much better tank w/40% resists than my 2.2k HAMpeco-peco, what non-ch pet is 5k I need one?

Found out that Crafting Station Droids are perhaps the only thing droids are useful for. Probabaly the number one reason for owning a driod is the mobile crafting station.

Found out that the Droid Engineer proffession only has 2 permanent costumers: the Bounty Hunter which buys extremely cheap droids by the busload, and the medics who only buy one in their entire lifetimes. Thats the other thing the newbie boom is pretty much over, soon the market will be so saturated that no one will need a driod. I know this is an issue for Architects and tailors as well.

After all that, I can only say I admire you folks for skilling up in such a proffession. I'm a glutton for punishment.

I'm a Droid Eng and I like still like being one regardless of the BS.

Of course if everything worked it would be much better...but in this world nothing every works the way it should. Heck the last time I checked the U.S. government was pretty "bugged".
