Thread: Question on Ethics

All:

I've recently encountered a dilema that some of you may have experienced. I've been making bomb droids for the last month or so. 56-rated, probably close to 150 total droids. I've been selling them for roughly 70-80K. Some guy has been buying my droids (which have the name "56 Rated Detonation Droid by Napard Droid Works") is mass quantities. I've been making a killing in credits. A 4-month "vet" to the game (only being a DE) and I've got almost 15 mil credits. I love it! But...

The same person has been purchasing these droids only to sell them at a higher cost. MUCH higher than the server norm. 200K. Now, don't get me wrong...I'm all about buy low and selling high. But I'm about finding a bargain and then selling for the norm. So, my elongated point is this - do I have a right to be pissed off this guy is selling my droids for an ridiculous price that have my name stamped on the deed? I'm thinking I may get a bad name because of it and eventually lose customers. And, what preventative measures could be taken? Thoughts?

There's nothing you can do (other than buy the products back that carry your name)

There's nothing wrong with someone trying to corner the market (and, in fact..this was a pretty shrewd business move on the part of said party).

The only bad part is that he/she is sapping your stock on BH droids. I guess you'll want to queue up another run and ration it out more. That's what I always did. Then you don't have to worry about these folks as much.

If you have other stock, and a loyal customer-base, it won't matter.

Fortunately, I stashed away 50 of my latest run for my loyal customers. 10 of those go to my best customer who told me of the problem to begin with....

I've always encouraged every MDE on every server to up their pricing...ever so slowly.

Itis the best defense as a market to battle the undercutters of the galaxy.

Without decay, it's really the only margin-protection there is...

Bottom line is, I think I'm just mad that someone else is selling my droids at a higher cost. It's really not an ethics thing...

I completely agree with upping prices (though not dramatically). For what it takes to put together R3's loadad with whatever you put in them and the lack of decay, the customer gets a steal. That's half the reason why most people don't go DE to begin with. When I started selling 59-rated R3's, I started at 80K. A guildie gave me the uber copper. I found some tolium gas and 998OQ inert gas dirt cheap (funded by a guildie). Now, I'm selling my 56-rated at 100K. I make 59-rated for only the best customers and still sell them at 80K to them, but many of those folks buy my 56 at 100K and only ask for the 59's when they really need them.

If this guy is going to continue running his "Droid Vendor" and doing nothing than reselling everyone else's droids at ridiculously high prices, my guild said they would supply the resources and lots to build enough droids to flood the market and smoke him out. Either A) he's wasted his credits and can't recover his cost, or B) I donate all my profits back to the guild to do better things with them. But, I don't think I'm going to go to that extreme. It'llpinch too many other DE's on Bria, and that's basically shooting your brethren in the head.

The odd part about it is when detonation droids aren't even working, I'm still selling 70+ at 100K!!!!

I'd say make sure you have some trademark on your droid deeds.... at the very least when buddy runs out his customers know where to go for bomb droids (you) and will be pleasantly surprised when they find out it's less of a cost.. hell if you put em up for 100K, that's 100K savings for them!

Or you could just ban him from you shop so he can't get in thats just me. I would up the prices a hair and be happy since you are making a killing.

As a matter of fact, this is how I handled my droid biz for some time.

Worked with a Master Merchant (one of the biggest on Ahazi) and also ran my own vendors. I was taking advantage of the power-buyers to supply even more. There's no reason to not support bulk business deals when you can handle them.

I'd just make the same amount for myself as what he ordered. Over time, I had all that I'd need to sell for quite some time crated.

NOTE: That last statement should tell you all about the state of how factories affect our galaxies.

Thanks for the tips fellas. I banned the two IGN's I knew. He came in (or a friend/guildie) and bought all of my last batch (70). I've upped the price of the 56-rated from 70K to 100K. If I can get my hands on more tolium, I'll sell them at 150K - still 50K cheaper than him. I just hate to do that to customers...especially when the darn things don't even work. Perhaps it'll be fun to put 20 or so out there and see if he buys them!

i dont really know how many people check the trade forums on bria, but i bet if you posted there with your vendor location as well as amounts of your droids and also dropped a line that you had NO affiliation with the guy that was buying yours and selling them for more, youd get more customer base and his would go away.. especially if he is not a DE and all your server DEs banned him.

Charge what you expect to get for the droids and what you think they are worth. If they sell, it doesn't matter who buys them. If you feel you are not getting enough, then raise your prices.

Then advertise like a fiend so they buy from you and not him.

You made 15 mil selling bomb droids to a guy and people are telling you to ban your best customer? ARE YOU CRAZY! Think of it this way, at least hes making money from people so he can buy more from YOU, the averagecustomer just..well.... blows them up. I'd send him a thanks for the business email.

Oh and as far as letting people know they're yours, just name them in the crafting phase with something like Bob's Bomb droid or Nape's Napalm.

My gut reaction would be to be pissed at the guy reselling my droids, because one of the things that I love about my shop is being able to keep stock in needed items. If someone comes in and buys everything on a constant basis, yeah I get rich, but now I have to work harder and keeping my stock up. I pay $15/month for my enjoyment, not his.

I've had an arrangement before where someone actually approached me and asked if he could resell a small quantity of my droids, and was even up-front about his pricing. I was fine with that, because he wasn't buying out my stock.
