Thread: Naming protocol droids

Hi, I haven't seen this anywhere, so I thought I'd ask.

I have a protocol droid with a sarcastic personality chip. Since you have to converse with protocol droids to program them, they don't do the whole (?) thing, so apparently, you can't name them like you can other droids. Does anyone know how you name them? I've tried using the same word at the beginning of 8 commands, not using any numbers or illegal characters.. I've named droids before.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Currently atleast to my knowledge and alot of other DEs, you cant name droids that you converse with to program.

Hi there. As far as I know there are some droids that cannot be named by the usual procedure. Can one name them during production?

If there is away to name them inproduction...it would just be the item name, not what it would appear as in your datapad when you activate it.

So if you had an r3 Unit, and I made it and named it George..

You put it in your datapad it would just say "an R3 Unit".

But there are times where you just don't use the droid and just set it in your house, with out putting it in your datapad the name George would come up.

Really if there is away to name them in production, I actually never figured it out. So if someone knows let me know.

Is there a way to name those droids that may include personality chips then?

You should beable to I would think, but I never really used a Protocol droid.

You would do it through the menu where you program the commands..

So say like you want to program it to follow

You click on follow with the menu that should show up..then you would see a "?" show above the droids head. Then you would say something like "George Follow Me".

You would then see a "!" which means the droid learned that command.

Do the same for the others, like Stay, make it "George Stay", after about 4 or 5 of programming him that way adventually you would see (George) Above the droids head.

Unfortunately I have never tried to name a protocol droid, but I am thinking its named in the same manner as other droids are.

I hope this helps, and I'm not -to- confusing hehe

"Talking" droids can't be named at all, due to the way you ineract with them (not the normal pet system, but NPC conversation).

hm... Well as far I know that doesn't work with some droids.
I have a LE repair droid on starsider for example. All its commands start with AN-OY (it's got a sarcastic personality) but it still says "an LE repair unit"

Theres your answer, thanks Obo_alCan

Thats unfortunate but I can see why they did it that way, to much confusion would be caused from it.

To clarify, this is a bug and is not intended.

Basically, if it is a Humanoid looking droid, it can't be named currently.
