Thread: A Simple Fix for DEs

This is just something I've been toying around with... I'm pretty obvlivious right now to the DE profession and just learning the basics, but I have an idea a friend suggested I post.

First fix I think should be to give the DEs most all of the droids they request. (within reason) I don't see a good reason we can't have droidekas, or a droid that can deliver items, or a droid that can provide music for an entertainer.

Second, maybe increase their HAM a little. I don't know their HAM but I hear its low. But most importantly, make the droid armor tree really worth it? Keep a droids HAM low but make them tanks. An example of where this would shine... Bounty Hunters don't really want a rancor or a beetle. They want something to distract their mark/take hits for them. BHs are supposed to be proficient with droids *anyways*... a droid with nice armor would fill that void and be more 'in character' than a droid with a huge beetle.

And lastly, the only reason I think a droideka would be denied to DEs is because the difference between a probot and a rancor is that only a trained CH can use a rancor, anyone can use a probot. I don't think making this "Droid Handler" profession is the answer. Instead, make the droids unhealable. This is where the balance would come in. Would the droids be too weak for anyone to buy? No, their armor would ensure they last. Would they be unkillable like most CH pets because a CH can simply keep healing it? No, they would need to be returned to a DE for repairs. This would also keep DEs business active. Sell good droids sometimes, repair good droids a lot. And the finishing touch would be DEs themselves would have a big perk because they can repair their own droids after combat.

I don't know, like I said, I'm still very obvlivious to the profession... but to me this sounds like a simple solution.

Armor is not bad now, this is how I understand it (I am a DE not a combat class)

Light Armor = 50% damage taken
Medium Armor = 25% damage taken
Heavy Armor = 12.5% damage taken

Add onto that the 40% resist....

At medium armor a 1000 point hit will be reduced to 250 from the armor and down another 100 points from the resist to 150 points.

A total of 15% of the damage it should have taken.

Heavy armor is insane, 1000 = 125 = 75 total of 7.5%

The problem as I see it is not the tanking ability so much as the damage dealing ability. I mean come on 50?

I don't care how good the armor is when your droid is doing 1/10th the damage the mob is, it turns into nothing but a distraction.

I still use my prenerf Probots (First nerf) they do 150 or so damage. Even with no armor they are a lot more help to me then the new probots are.

Up the HAM to the old levels, or up the damage to the old levels. As it is, they are a nice add on to combat. But that is about it.

Prenerf I sold Probots for 25k Postnerf I sell Advanced Probots for 15k and have trouble doing it.

Ah well, I am about done with the game anyway. Light play for less then 2 months and Im closing on Master. I have played EQ for 5 years and not hit the top end.... Why can I in SWG.
Besides I picked what seems to be one of the worst classes in the game.

That's pretty much the way it's supposed to work anyway. However, the armor ratings on droids appear to not be working correctly....shocking, I know. It may say medium armor, but I've been noticing my poor Probot taking some hard hits lately. Even from lower level critters. Altho the 40%resistances seem to be working fine.
Think there was another post floating around here saying pretty much the same thing......
