Thread: Droid Biographies?
I dunno, I think this would be a cool idea. Droids dont really have any sentimental value to people, and as such can be tossed around and destroyed without a second thought. My suggestion to add a sentimental and roleplaying value is to add droid biographies. When crafted, the DE has an option to create a small biography such as "This little R4 unit was crafted during the great Galatic Civil War byFrotito aid Soandso and ultimately the Rebel Alliance in defeating the Empire". I think that most of the Droid Engineers are mature enough to not be 1337 D00dz about it, but there are always bad seeds I guess. Anyway, the droid's biography would record any transfer of owners and the owner's would also have an option to add to the biography. For those who do not like the biography, they could take the droid to a droid engineer to get its memory wiped (I believe Threepio said that heavoided these).
One major problem that comes to mind are people like myself who destroy droids in order to make room for new ones (trust me, i do it with a heavy heart). So an idea is to be able to re-sell droids to certainvendors (Jawas anyone?), but they would purchase them at incredibly low prices and mark them up at just asincredibly high prices (EQ did this, so the economystayed mostlyplayer controlled). Or perhaps they could sell the droids to various Droid Engineer trainers. On another note, maybe this could be done with all artisan classes. But what I believe Sony wants the least is to have people grinding out hundreds of mouse droids and then selling them to a vendor for a decent profit. So what needs to be done is have the 5% bonus worth more than thechumpchange you'll receive for the mouse droid or whatever you may be grinding on. OR have people only be able to sell x amount of droids to a vendor (perhaps being reset daily?).
And this yet brings up another problem, Droid engineers wont be able to sell droids as much because people will be buying them used fromNPC's (unless theyre too expensive, but then why would you buy it from an NPC? I dunno). THUS droids need to be able to blow outcertain parts and have them replaced (R5 from thefirst movie? His motivator was blown). This I think we needed anyway.
Yet another solution to the first problem is to have wild droids (released ones) be tamable by this new "Droid Handler" thing everyones talking about.
Heh, seems so complicated for such a simple request.
