Thread: A Droid For Every Profession

When and If they overhaul the droids made by Droid Engineers, they should make a droid type for every advanced profession. These droids would have certs which you would gain at novice and at master (basic and advanced versions). These droids should not fulfill other class roles, but help the class fulfill THEIR role, in the manner of seeker droids and Bounty Hunters. In example, the only "Tank" Droids should belong to Brawler professions, Marksmen professions should have attack droids with lower HAMs and no armor but with range. Damage output of these combat droids should be less than a player of that profession, but worth having. Non combat professions should have non combat utility droids (including creature handlers). Artisan professions could have droids with advanced crafting stations built in, and the advanced versions giving bonuses to the assembly skill. Combat Medic droids could run around and heal people with stimpaks that you would load into them. Basically, the droids should be an extension of the class, a perk.

This would heavily proliferate droids without unbalancing things unduely.

A note to new(ish) board posters. People will tend to skip over long paragraphs that have no structure. Please seperate ideas with bullet points, paragraphs, or something.

Thanks

I'm sorry, I didn't realize people can't read a normal paragraph. Bullet points? That is used when there are multiple important subsections of the paragraph topic. In this case, there is only one main point, so bullet points are wasted. Did you even read it?

Sigh, so much for this thread.

The big problem I see is that I'm not sure everyone agrees what is the perfect droid for your profession. Still, this is also the best answer to droid certs I've seen, so i have mixed feelings about the issue. As a Ranged combat class, is the perfect droid a sniper droid, or a brick wall that beeps. I'd hate to see people go Ranger just because it had a cool droid.

Well, it's definately a good idea, and I agree with it. There should be a droid out there that can be useful to every profession in helping them do what they do, only better.

However, we also have to be careful about limitting droids. We must remember that some people also use droids to make up for deficiencies elsewhere. Artisans use combat droids as bodyguards, combat classes want a Medical droid to heal them, etc. Now these droids should never be as good as a live player, ever, but they are still functionally useful.

So there's two possibilities there, droids that help make a person's strong points even better, or droids that help ease the problems of their weak points.

I think it's an excellent principle. What the specific droids do for each profession has innumerable possibilities, and really doesn't need to be discussed.
