Now, thinking about the Star Wars Galaxy.

Artoo and C-3PO landed on Tatooine, were captured, and was then bought by Owen Lars and Luke was made their new master. Now, both of these are basic droids, one for protocol and one with varying functions.

Now, had Owen Lars bought a Probot from the Jawas, I don't think the Luke or Owen simply saying "You belong to me now, go over there" would work. I do think that if Owen Lars bought a probot from a droid maker, the droid maker could have programmed it to accept commands from Owen Lars.

This kind of relates to the CH system that is currently in play.

Now a couple of things on specialty droids.

A2-1B droid isn't exactly very mobile in the movies (from what I can see). Nor is it very quick. I think that they can heal someone, given time. I can't see a 2-1B droid running out of an ambulence, flipping a guy over, and doing Emergency Medicine. Given this, I don't think they would be "replacing" a character if they were given some level of medical care. Perhaps if you're in a house with a 2-1B, your wounds get healed as if you were in a camp. Perhaps a top level2-1B can heal as good as a Novice or Level 1 medic (or something like that).

Now a doctor with a 2-1B droid would be able to heal almost as good as in a hospital (though not quite). I believe this is how the system is currently set up, and I agree with it. If I were to use a medpack on someone in a hospital, I should maybe get 10% of the results if I were to use the same medpack in the middle of the Tatooine Desert with a MSE med droid out.

Now, where I think the big problem is (with SWG in general) is that everyone wants to hang onto their droid indefinately. Just as weapons decay with use, I think droid should too. If a droid is just sitting there, it shouldn't be decaying. But maybe a black point for every 10000 meters. If it's in battle, it should take damage that isn't easily repaired. If C-3PO lost an arm, I don't think Luke would have easily been able to put it back. I certainly don't think it would have reappeared if Luke put C-3PO away for a week.

Just like bringing out a stormtrooper, when you bring out a droid you might loose it. It's up to the devs to come up with a system where it might be worth the risk. So that if Newbie Player gets a Probot, and the Probot takes all the damage time and time again, that eventually the player will have to either get a new Probot or get his Probot repaired. He can try to repair it himself, but the likelyness of him failing is medium to high, depending on his tools. If he were to take it to a DE, they can almost certainly repair it, though like repairing weapons it's not gonna be "Good as New"

I think there were a lot of good suggestions on these boards about ways to bring droids back into SWG. I think having Droids take black damage (perhaps not as quick as a human character) is a step.

I think a Droideka should be as effective a stormtrooper (if a droideka ever gets out) since a Droideka was a common unit in the Clone Wars against a Storm Trooper (I think a droideka would be better, but for argument's sake). If you make Droideka's hard to make, you're not gonna see an army of them. Or the army of Droidekas isn't gonna be much different than an army of Stormtroopers. I think a droideka would be harder to kill, but also harder to heal.

Stop thinking that one thing is gonna fix droids. It's not. You gotta incorporate a lot of things suggested here. I think that's one of the major problems with SWG, everyone is looking for a one time fix. One thing the devs do that makes everythign OK. Aspects of the certification system have merit. So do aspects of the droid repair system.

As for my last statement, since I touched upon it here a few times, I think too many players want their items to be there indefinately. I don't think this should be the case. If I wear a set of clothes and walk from Anchorhead to Mos Espa, I would expect those clothes to be pretty worn. However, if I were to have another set of clothes in my backpack, I would expect those to remain tip top. If I use my crafting tool 10000 times, I would expect it to start getting pretty worn, maybe not workign as well. Of course I could take my clothes to a Tailor and have it stiched up, or take my crafting unit to a repairman and get it fixed. Otherwise, I could just buy a new set of clothes and a new crafting machine. Nothing in life is permanent, nothing in Star Wars should be too.

Sorry for the length.
