Thread: An idea to spif up yer profession...
Well to get the easy bit out of the way first, and the one most likely to draw the most controverse... I think DE's should be able to create a whole host of modules, some that take programs and others that are fixed. Some modules could only go into certian chases though...
An idea of a fixed module would be crafting stations, crafting tools, that wonderful vendor idea another gent had would make a great fixed module.
Programable modules would come in types and would eb able to accept a certian range of programs. Programs would be a set number of charges (say 10). Have master artisans be able to something, let's call'em program cartriges, that masters of other profession can put programs into. Some programs would be specific, others general. I'll list program ideasa bit later... Add a new crafting station in town that every master can use... They would use a program cartrige and some credit to craft a program. They'll get to experiment with, so they'll get a base of5 charges and can experiment with it up to 10. Basically make it a bit random to get 10 charges to shake things up and to eat up a little bit of time.
Each bot can hold several modules and each module can hold several programs all customizable by DE's. It might also be a good idea to have modules slowly decay somehow and give DE's the ability to swap out modules and replace them, but not let the modules be repaired. Sometimes it is just cheaper, faster and more effective to replace the whole unit.
Unless yer a DE you can only have 1 module active at a time and it would take say 60 seconds timer after a program is done before you can change active modules. Might also be smart to have a 30 second timer between program changes too. Though you can use all of the uses in a program 1 after another with no delay.
I would also allow the DE to make certian bots with heacy armor... Though keep all of the damage they can deal naturally to a minimum. I would also make it twice as likely for wounds to occur to a bot and wounds on a bot have to be repaired by a DE or by a bot!
General Programs
Master entertainers would be able to create programs, music and/or dances that can be put into an entertianer program module. This would allow someone with say an R2-D2 out to play the program and have their mind healed. They would be healed at the rate of a novice of the given profession whose master programmed it, so elite enterainer profession would heal the mind a bit better than the basic one. Though have it only heal mind and not the 2 sub mind stats, also don't heal battle fatigue... This would be a sort of stimpack A for the mind, but in a bot. I'd say let each program run for 30-60 seconds. Think of the module to run these programs having to have hologram emmitters and stereo speakers, etc... Though it would be nice to get advanced/elite tunes, even though it heals at novice rate. This would be perfect for an R2-D2 unit! I'm not sure it would be a good idea to heal wounds with a program or not. But I can see healing a mind bleed as a nice program to have!
Master smugglers would be able to make slicing programs for terminals, armor and weapons. The slicign module would remove the need of molecular clamps. The slicing program for terminals just removes the need for molecular clamps. Effectly removing the need to find copper to craft them and saves a little inventory space. The weapons and armor program however would increase the chance of the next armor/weapon slice by 10-20% to get the type of slice you want. i.e. damamge with weapons or encubernace with armor. It also remvoes the need for molecular clamps. Slicing programs should be expensive though to make up for the costs of the MC's and their special benefit with armor/weapons.
Master medic would basically be able to create programs that would specifically heal either health or action, but not both. They would be similar to the ENT entry above. The heals would be a slow heal like watching a dancer, rather than the insta patch you normally get... Thus this would be useful after the battle to save your stims, but not really a great in the heat of battle healing. I don't know if it would be a good idea to tackle wounds, but it might be a good idea to be able to buy programs to heal poison and desease! Also being able to heal health/action bleeds would be good to. All seperate programs off course.
Master DE would be able to make bot repair programs. have these program work in a similar fashion to the ENT and MEDIC programs.
Specific programs - These only work on the planet they were programmed for!
Master ranger would be able to make programs for finding a specific creature. Just 1 per program. So they make their program on Lok they can make it for Kimogilas. If they made their program on Tatooine however, they could not make it for Kimogilas on Lok. This would be a function best for a probot and would require a specific module to run this program. Think of it as the module needs specific detection type devices!
Master rifleman would be able to make sniping programs... Think of it as a novice ability of conceal shot with a CDEF type rifle but the damage type can be set. Each program would last for 1 combat. You could actually extend this idea for all of the combat classes... Use somethign to a CDEF as the basis for the range/damage/speed the program does for the combat and allow the damage type to be set, or a limit damage type to be set. Also not that a give program only works on the planet it was made... So if you hunt on quite a few different planets, you'll need alot of programs!
Anyways... That is the basic framework... What do you all think? I think this framework would also make it easy to add small bits at a time. Adding the healing stuff should be easy to start with...
LOOK, UP IN THE SKY ... IT'S A BIRD ... IT'S A PLANE ...
*lump of crap falls on your head*
Nope its a pig
There is NO WAY when after 5 months the development team still can not get a frickin repair droid to acctually repair anything will these ideas ever be implemented.
Nice post tho,, am glad too see someone thinkin about the DE's
*pout*
These are not the Driods yer looking for... Ignore the Pistoleer behind the curtain...
Perhaps the developers and just failing to come up a really neat idea to really motivate them to elevate your profession to the second msot popular profession on SWG!
p.s.You don't wanna be 1st, cause then you'll see a nerf bat!
