Thread: Lets take action into our own hands.

Lets start acting like droid engineers. Lets stop loop nesting modules into droids. Lets stop placing modules that dont make sense into droids. This is an issue that we have asked the DEVs to enforce by modifying the program. Why can't we have the scrupuls to stop these exploits and tell our customers we will not do that.

Lets tell the customers we will not put general module clusters where justa normal moduleshould be. Tell them we will not use this exploit. If they ask for a medical module in a mouse droid, tell them no.

If they want item storage, data storage, medical modules, and a crafting station... tell them they must by an R3 unit. And the R3 unit should be an expensive model to create. (except for the Power droid and the BLL because of how much materials is needed... those will probably be more expensive... and maybe the Protocol droid because ditanium is so scarce)

If they want to purchace the Probot attack droid (*snickers at the attack portion of the droid) tell them they will get an attack droid with storage unit or data storage.

I am not saying that I have the answers, but if we really want droids to serve a specific function, lets stop crying to the DEVs and do it right now by policing our own actions. Lets show them that we are serious in that we want specific functionality for droids. I understand that it might take a while for droids to be reprogrammed to serve specific function and that this might not be high on their priority list.

If everyone agrees with me, lets ask the DEVs to do something outrageous. Ask them to create a SWG message to all persons with DE and tell them of this bug and that this is what we should do in the mean time. And every time a new person acquires Novice Droid Engineering, they are informed of our plans to police ourselves. Perhaps a message from our great and illustrious Correspondent.

I know this is asking alot of maturity from players that might lack them. I can see that there will be a strong minority that will laugh at me and say "Go right ahead, that just means more buisness for me because I will exploit it and sell to customers who want my services." And I challenge you to think how un-Star Wars that would be.

Mouse Droids should be pets, not item storage, data storage, mobile medical units, crafting station, repair droids for crying out loud. It is just not physically possible.

I for one am definately going to police my own actions and will begin to spread the word on my galaxy. I hope you will as well and begin to adopt some personal pride in being a Droid Engineer. Droids make the universe happen in Star Wars, lets begin to make it a reality! I love this game and I love being a droid engineer. I love making droids for people.

Its a great idea, I applaud you for your enthusiasm, but you will never get all the DE's (most likely not even most or some of them) to follow through with it. Its just not feasible to organize a group like this (especially when the majority don't read the forums), especially when that group is already pissed.

I agree. This is a great idea and I practice it myself without exception. Unfortunately, not everyone reads these forums. Not everyone understands that what they are doing is wrong. Not everyone is committed to something beyond making a few fast credits. It's a sad reality that keeps these sorts of things from ever working universally.

That is why I am proposing we give a system wide email to all droid engineers. To make up for the fact that not everyone reads the forums.

I know that my post will not be honored and that my proposal will just be academic, but I had to say it none the less. Our profession needs a stimpack in the arm (or at least a Repair droidto fix our servos in our chopped off hand)

I strongly disagree.

First off, who am I to say what module belongs where? Who am I to say that a Probot shouldn't have a Med module or a Crafting station. In fact, I encourage combat medics to buy those things in a Probot because it's the only droid that can take a hit in the field.

Who am I to say that I won't nest Protocols? For the expense I charge just for the droid alone, the customer has a right to expect the trimmings on an other useless droid.

Who am I to say that the customer can't have the R2 with all the trimmings, he has to take the R3 even if it doesn't have a look he likes? Especially considering that R2D2 was obviously a pretty well rounded out droid.

About the only thing I agree on is my refusal to put a Level 6 module in a MSE. Everything else, IMO, is fair game, because obviously this proffession was never fully developed and has so many inconsistencies and questionable design decisions that I'm not about to rip off my customers forcing them to buy 3 semi-useless droids instead of 1 semi-useless droid.

I take pride in my work. I take pride in my customers satisfaction. And not a single person walks out of my shop unhappy with their purchase. And I'm not about to change that now based upon someone elses interpretation of what goes where. Considering I'm one of maybe 3 or 4 Master DE's on Radiant, they don't have many options in the first place.

(Excepting those that want nested MSEs, they're SOL.)

I think its a nice idea in theory, but to be honest... DE's need to sell droids however they can. Its not like we have a large market to "police" it. Thats not what we do. Tell the beginning novice droid engineer, "oh no dont sell that MSE droid with medical modules... thats against the DE creedo!". He or she is going to laugh at you and sell it anyways. If somebody wants to purchase an MSE with medical, storage, data, whatever: I'm going to sell it to them. I'm sure quite a few of you have busted your first million selling droids, but not everyone has. For alot of novice DE's its still quite a struggle.Leave what small sellable droids we have, alone. If I sound like I'm bitter, then yes... its because its easy to say "Refuse to sell MSE's with medical!" when you have 2 million credits in your bank. When you have 4000 credits total, you tend to do what you need to for your customers. MSE's... DZ70's... put modules in them and sell to your hearts content.

Its just my opinion, of course. Take it as you will.

Actually MSEs DO MAKE sense for data storage.

I half support this idea

I may stuff more modules into an R2 or a probot than I should be able to, but those are "real" droids in my eyes. I won't nest or stuff a bunch of high end modules into a mouse or other low end droid

I agree with not using this so called exploit. I have never used it and will not use it infact. But I disagree that its our job to police ourselves.

I disagree with the MSE droid part of this though. I do not feel it is an exploit to put any module in an MSE droid. If it is wrong or shouldn't be done then the developers need to fix it.

I here a lot of people say things to each other like "the game wasn't ment to be played that way" etc. I have to disagree with them. Were does it say how the game should be played? Whos fault is it that its being played wrong, assuming it is? And whose fault is it that things arent being fixed so that its being played right, again assuming there is a right way?

Heres how I generaly feel about so called "Exploits"...

If the developers dont want something in thier game to be done, then they need to get off thier CH-obsession and fix things with other classes, especialy DEs. They are the ones getting a paycheck to make things work properly here... Im not.
