I had a mindstorm the other day.

The DZ-70 isn't an offensive droid - it's really a piece of armor.

Consider a one-shot, 100% effecitve vs all attacks Personal Shield Generator that doesn't use any clothing or inventory slots.

That's what a DZ-70 is.

You put it in guard mode, and let it follow you around. When you get into combat, it automatically flies toward the enemy, distracting them. Many of the mobs will switch targets to it since it's the closest thing that's inflicting damage on them. Even if they infict enough damage in one it to incap the droid, it's not you that takes the damage.

You have a whole free action to aim, run, burst run, heal, whatever.

For a newbie char, or a non-combat one, the chance to take no damage on one attack and be free to burst-run the heck out of dodge is a wonderful thing.

When you consider that a PSG of reasonable effectiveness is going to be much more than the cost of a DZ-70, this is a good deal for all concerened.

I've started marketing 'Defender' droids using the basic DZ-70 chassis. I'd like to push this train of thought to more DE's so that it gets spread to the potential customer base.

Heh, I made one of those, and used it for that exact reason when I first started out. The droids name was "Decoy". It never really helped me that much, but it DID do exactly what you said... was attacked, and gave me a free attack round.
