Thread: Why do DE have to be so zealous in regard to proposed DE change.

I'm very interested in what happens to DE. Mind you, I'm not one myself but I recognize the potential increased immersion level driod engineers can bring if done correctly. Also, I enjoy this game (way too much actually), and dynamic professions -as this would idea could become- is what help make games great.

The proposed plan was to offer combat driods that are only usable by DE. Well, I was shocked to see such a debate over something so seemingly cool. But I objectively read the posts and canunderstand the aversion to be another version of CH.

However, that doesn't mean that a DE-Only combat driod is a bad idea.

Since this was only the "proposed" idea it's up for change. But everyone seemed to interpret the idea as some absolute rule. As if there was going to be a dedicated line for personal DE pet-power that someone could exploit . Much like the 3/2/x/x (graul mauler)CH problem. At least that's the impression.

However, if this was implemented correctly it would really addanother level of depth. It's not easy or cheap, and requires a great deal of patience to complete a tree like DE. So I would imagine that ,at master for example,a DE combat driod would be a well earned reward.

So I guess my ramble is leading up to a question.

Rather than debating within a black and white, yes or no context. How could a DE-only combat driod fit into the profession without compromising the integrity of a crafting class or making it accessible to dabblers.

Unless the DE-only combat droid is some ungodly clvl, I don't see how it would compromise the classes integrity. Such a droid would not make DEs the "new super hunters". In my oppinion, it would adda unique option to the class. The key word here is "Option", meaning those DEs who are against the idea aren't forced to build one. Back to my point now.... I think that such a droid would improve the integrity of the class, "if" it were not something that gave the DE an overwelming combat advantage.

If the schematic and control for such a droid were only available at Master level, then dabblers would not be an issue.

I think you should look at it from another perspective. DE's should be certed for whatever they can make, but the other classes cant unless they're certed. I used to be absolutely against certs for droids, but I cansee why certs are neccesary. There are some great proposals on how to work certs in other threads, but basicly novice marksman/brawler certs for a CL-10 type of droid, novice entertainer for a droid that an entertainer could use, artisian for droids withcrafting stations and the ones that are going to deal with harvestors, elite combat proffesions for CL-20 or perhaps even a bit highertype droids, (yes, I think they should be pretty strong, would be another incentive for CH's to level up higher to get their rancor), etc.

Please excuse my cynical, somewhat grumpy posts sometimes. I'm a DE.

The balance wouldn't be an issueif it weren't for the fact that your comparing the droid to some elite character or high level CH pet. Ok, so its not as strong as either of these, but by comparing them you are putting them in the same class. To give someone with no combat skills this, fine, they are definately more powerful than they should be but not enough to cause anyone serious issues, but then you'd also get people you use their remaining 158 skill points for something that is overpowered. Now, not only do you have a combat character that is stronger than he should be, but he is also a full fledged crafter, essentially giving him some free skill points.

DEs get new chassis to sell, combat types get to play that way, crafters can still be pure crafters, Master DEs get a slightly advanced or somehow special model (but not so much better than the new droids that people will sit through the grind exclusively for it).

Droideka for DEs to sell, Droideka Adv for DEs to use, possibly with the mere addition of a shield generator for better protection.

So, the basic jist I'm getting here is that the idea is a GOOD one by itself, but is complicated with the inclusion of the "uber" chasing player. Personally, I couldn't agree with you guys more on this topic.

It sounds like implementing a powerfuland much stronger than average shouldn't be the goal. But, what if theDE-only driodawardedto Masters was specific in design.Like a driodeka module(only an example). Something with definate "cool-factor", that makes DE just a little more fun and rewarding, but isn't strong enough to attract people that aren't really in it for the fun of the class.

I think this is reasonable. Master DE is a real hard slog. A cool reward for our efforts would be nice. CHs get lvl 70 pets. We ask for cool DE pets like droidekas and you'd think the freaking sky was falling!

people dont want dabblers, and people want to make sure they have a new droid to sell.

I think a master DE only droid is fine, as long as its no higher than CL 20-25,

There is nothing else to compare it to other than CH. And you obviously missed the point of the comparison. Im not asking for a droid that is as strong or stronger than a master CH pet. Im asking for one that is unique and only answers to me, its creatore. I think you give too little credit to droids because you fear change.

Im sure youll disagre that a master creature handler, master droid engineer is ok, but that is exactly what you describe in the end of your post.

Im sorry, I don't see the logic in your post, other than perhaps an attempt to cause others to misinterpret the posts you disagree with.

Not gonna happen....

While we were united in our demands for Dev attention, we have become a fractious lot now that their attention is upon us.

Regretfully I feel thatby going so long without any TLC from the Devs each of us has had a time to formulate what the ideal Droid Engineer would be to each of us. Being as each such vision is personal and precious to each of us, the thought of DE's ending up any way but the way we envision is rather upsetting.

I don't mind the fact of DE's getting one or two high-level Combat Droids that only they can use in their upper levels. That's absolutely fine.

However, I argue that such a thing isn't a good priority. In my mind's eye, it is better to introduce combat droids that can be sold to other players, and implement a wise cert system that keeps newbies from getting better combat droids yet doesn't restrict the droids based on profession. That should come first; after that we can get the one or two upper-level Combat Droids that only a Master DE can control.

See what you're missing is that the DE's are responding based upon 1 of5 different motivations.

1. Greed: Wants droids of sufficient usefullness that they are in demand, but not sufficient usefullness as to encourage people to take up DE. Usually seen campaigning against new combat chasis, DE getting all certs, and DE only combat chasis as they recognize this will encourage people to join up.

2. Crafter: Doesn't want to play Combat class. Sees DE only Combat Chasis as a threat, as they feel it's the gateway to DE becoming a combat class.

3. Combat: Wants to play a combat class. Sees DE only Combat Chasis as a gateway to making it a mechanical CH and selling other types of Droids to receive the best of both worlds.

4. Ulta-Realistic:Star Wars movies are canon, and nothing should taint that.

5. Gameplay-realistics: Understand the gameplay sufficiently to recognize that thecurrent environment requires Pets to play, and feels that DE should provide those pets to best stay within continuity. This groups statements are contingent on the Devs keepingMobs the same, though evidence exists that Mobs may be changing and thus making their arguements void. (I belong here).

Groups 2-5 all havevalid points, and all neglect pointsbrought upby the others.

In truth, what really needs tohappen here is for the Developers to outline their vision of DE and it's place in SWGs, not leave it up to the Players.

Because, after all, we all have our own personal motivations for why we want DE to do whatever it is we're campaigning for.
