Droids are artificial constructs. They are programmed by their makers. Their combat skills are not dependent on the maker's experience or combat prowess. They do not require taming or training since they are programmable.

To those that do not want combat droid engineers, no one's forcing you down that path. By all means keep on crafting and remain crafters. Those droid engineers that want some combat spice have now that option to commandeer droids

OK, here's my take on the comments on DE-only droids in the DE plan.

Whomever drafted the plan did specifically say "droid modules that only DE can use".

Now, does ANYONE really think that the devs intended to give combat droids ONLY to DE?

Or do you think perhaps they were thinking that the skills for USING combat droids would also be placed in the DE skilltree?

Perhaps it was a typo, or they misstated the true intent of using the modules, or whatever.

SERIOUSLY, does anyone actually think that DE would be the only ones that could use combat droids and that no one else in the game would be aloud to use them???

I have an idea, why don't we just ASK what they ment by that statement instead of endlessly arguing about something that is PROBABLY not even a real issue???

"When Sony and Lucas set out, we said, How can we do this and not make another EQ? We didn't want it to be all about Luke, or combat, or lock our players into a class. So we created a system that would allow players to switch professions during the game, and there would be a lot of gameplay around making that change. If you want to go from architect to scout we've created a system to make that happen."

The way I see it, DE Only droids would be a mistake. But should that stop them from putting combat droids in the game, no.

From my point of view there are 3 ways people can exist with combat droids. 1, don't touch 'em with a 10 foot pole. 2, make and sell them. 3, make and sell or hunt with them.

Personally I'm hoping for choice 3, which would be like letting everyone that can buya Botuse one. The excuse the Devs gave for nerfing Probots because they were letting people solo red cons was wrong. A red to a novice marksman isn't a red to a level 4 carbineer marksman.

I think the wording in the plan stemmed from a basic misunderstanding of the profession. To make a similar example it would be the same as saying.

We are adding a new weapon component that only weaponsmiths can use.

Well of course only weaponsmiths can use that component, because that component can only be used to make weapons... which is the sole domain of weaponsmiths!

Droid modules are the sole domain of DEs cos they are used to build droids.
